Well so the 2022 cruising Sean has officially started. Got my Border Patrol sticker in the mail today. They stole $30.53.

But I am getting excited. Now if my generator would arrive. 20220209_125448.jpg

Stole? It makes sense that users should pay for the costs incurred rather than the German public where it’s easy? I didn’t mind paying for mine.

And like you, I’m excited! $31 is a bargain for us to see Canada!

Actually they stole it from me in 2020 when I bought the sticker and then they closed the border and wouldn't let me use it. If I can use it in 2022 I'll be happy for the steal.

ASD. I need to bring out my tiny violin [emoji41]

But, here is your chance to feel sorry for me.
In the ‘80’s and 90’s, I was renting planes for bahamas and T&C trips. If you were the first that particular year, u bought the decal. Some years, i was first for several planes. Plus my own boat [emoji16]

Actually, it's for entry back into the USA. Canada is easy and welcoming.

LOL please play that fiddle for me.

Of course, but I worded it that way as most are only going to see Canada if they can get back into the US!

It was annoying though the first time I bought one if was in November and it was only good until 12/31, as opposed for 12 months, yet I paid the annual rate.

Hello
Can someone explain the need for the sticker. Were in seattle and hope to be able to get up to canada this summer. Is this something i need to aquire?

Thanks

Yes. If your boat is 30’ plus you are required to pay to reenter the US. The annual pass is good for the calendar year. I’m not sure there are single entry anymore? It’s just under $31.

Ok got that coming my way. Any other surprises i should know for going back and forth?

Also where do they want the sticker placed?

I've never had them look at the actual sticker. They want the number on it. Re-entry in to the US (at least prior to Covid) was with the phone app, and the number on the sticker is what you enter. One time I entered before I had the sticker, but I had the receipt for payment and the number. You can get the number from your account as soon as they cash the check.

You will want to download the US and Canadian customs phone apps and enter some info before you cross either direction.

Greetings,
Mr. m. "...Any other surprises i should know..." Rather than rely on internet "hearsay" you would be best to contact the border agencies directly to get the latest and most concise requirements for crossing the border in both directions. Try to get a written copy of the regulations. IF you have any questions regarding wording or interpretation and you make phone inquiries, be SURE to note the agents badge/identification #. Don't ask how I know...

Both agencies probably have websites that provide the information you need. No hearsay, no agent name required, no guessing. Accuracy should also be expected.

You're choice of language to describe the voluntary exchange of petty cash for services is Troll-like. It's $30 dollars. You're acting like its a financial burden. Stop whining.

I agree. It really is trolling. "Extortion"? Really? For an annual user fee to bring your yacht through US customs as many times as you want? Is you USCG documentation fee "extortion"? Marina fees? Pump out fees?

USCBP Extortion Sticker

Nobody remembers having to drive to a customs equipped airport? Or boating to a special phone at special marinas? Or having a in person paperwork session at even more special marinas? The decal is obviously a great deal.

Coupled with CBP Roam.

Nothing to do with the sticker but at this moment you need a negative COVID test result to enter the USA. This was not the case last September when I came in from Canada and might not be the case this summer. Just something to be aware of in your border crossing plan.

I remember those days. Add to the list waiting for the agents to show up because they were clearing an aircraft or passenger vessel. Or being told it is now after hours and you'll get cleared next day. Or when the agent shows up and they just feel like running you through the ringer with a full inspection of vessel and documents.

The only thing I can see that's wrong about the $31 fee is it seems too low. Do we really think $31 covers the full cost of prossesing your application and payment, issuing the decal and keeping record of it to make checking in a breeze?

That was only if you are flying into the US. Land and water crossing did not require it. This was as of December. Has that changed?

CBP Roam app for USA

CBPS ArriveCAN app for Canada

They want you to place the sticker on the Port side window, forward.

Man you guys need to loosen up a bit. Smile and laugh a little. Enjoy life! Enjoy retirement.:thumb::lol:

It a tax.

I do not think it has changed. I flew back to the US in January and had to present a one day old negative test to the airline to board

I believe you are required to have the sticker/number. If you show up at a customs dock or use the ROAM app, the border patrol officer will ask for the number on the sticker. If you don't have it, the officer will have you complete the application, take your money and you will be assigned an entry number.

We crossed into US at the Blaine Wa land border on Jan 29, without a Covid test requirement. Had to show proof of full vax. Can't vouch for water, but doubt it has changed.

A little story about returning into the US for the first time with our Camano Troll. A Camano Troll and the later Camano 31 are the same boat. The LOA is 31 feet, but that includes 1 foot of anchor sticking out front and 2 feet of swim platform out back. It is actually a 28 foot boat. Ours was USCG documented at 28 feet. We pulled in right in front of the customs shack at Roche Harbor, Wa. I went inside and gave the agent all our information. She asked if I had a sticker. I told her it was a 28 foot boat and didn't require one. I even showed her the USCG documentation. She looked out the window and told me it was not a 28 foot boat. She took a tape measure out and measured the hull length, luckily for me she didn't include the anchor and swim platform. She shook her head, climbed into the boat, and told my wife to wait on the dock. She searched the boat from top to bottom. After not finding anything she tossed me my paperwork and told me to leave. She must have been having a bad day. We have been through customs many more times since then and have had only one other bad experience, with our current boat, also at Roche Harbor.

We had a memorably obnoxious time at Roche Harbor too. 2016 I think. The agents both wore mirrored sunglasses like Cool Hand Luke. They made us all line up on the dock like they were doing one of those police station ID line-ups. Okay, now turn to your right! Number 4, step forward! Two late middle aged couples, from Phoenix and South Dakota on a charter sailboat, one of whom had mobility issues and had to use a walker. Yeah, I'm sure we fit the profile for drug cartel smugglers. I didn't know whether to be annoyed or burst out laughing at them because they were such caricatures. You're not KGB agents in Prague in 1956 dudes, lighten up Francis. Waterboarding for you, you have an illegal banana!! I thought to myself, you're no more or less an American than I am, don't be a jerk.

I get it now. You were only joking about that “extortion” thing.

Just curious. Is there any fee you pay for a government service you don’t consider extortion?

LOL Well......not all. But then again that is a different conversation.

The greatest entertainment is to anchor in front of the customs dock. Grab a beer and a bow chair and watch the circus. I love having NEXUS.:thumb:
