I am replacing a small aft deck behind the stateroom on my 81 Ta Ciao trawler. The plywood and hatch have mostly disintegrated although a lot of the teak, if I planed it down, could potentially be reused, but that's presuming a lot.
Given the cost of teak, if I replace the whole deck (about 4 x 8'), are there any cost effective alternatives. Either an alternative less expensive hardwood with similar characteristics or the feasibility of a high quality hardwood plywood deck (glassed over). I've never seen that done, but am just trying to be creative. Because of the roof, this deck is not completely exposed and doesn't get any real sun. I'm not thinking synthetic teak at this point.
