I don't care much for Georgetown but really enjoy the out island regatta. A drunk fest like spring break.

I'm with you on that. We were there for the Family Islands regatta last year. We left as soon as it was over. We wanted to be there this year, but bought a new boat at the last minute, that just wasn't ready to cruise, yet.

But, the Family Islands regatta lets you see the real Bahamas for a week. And, it's pretty cool!
 
Thank you for taking the time to post that. We do have a dog and that was very helpful
 
A couple more blog posts to come of the final weeks and journey home, but we are home, safe and sound.

We watched the weather closely and timed our run to West End for the day before the best window - Tuesday showing 15mph winds from the south. That meant staying three days in Palm Cay resort on Providence while it blew (again!!), then to north Berrys on Sunday (slaughter Harbour), West End Monday (Old Bahama Bay) and crossing Tuesday.

The crossing was mainly OK, it was rough starting out as there was a strong current flow against the wind at West End, but then we had it good and it didn't get rough again until we hit the shallower waters near Fort Pierce.

Harbortown Marina Fort Pierce Tuesday night, Cocoa Village Marina Wednesday night, Halifax Harbor Marina in Daytona Thursday, and home Friday.

Spent most of Saturday getting everything off!

We want to wait until Cuba is unrestricted before we do that as we want to be able to take the time we want to go around the whole island. Right now I believe it is only a two week allowance so long as you meet the other requirements?
 
I'm not sure about the time but two weeks wii be enough for us, after all we live in Miami which is little Havana. ��
I was in Cuba in 1958 and 1959 when they had a good economy. From friends who have made the trip two weeks we be sufficient as we don't plan to cruise the south side

We crossed from Bimini to Ft. Lauderdale (aprox. NW) last Sunday. As noted, 12kts-15kts wind from the S and SE so a following sea. Not too terribly bad but we noted a vessel in the 50' range running at, I would guess, 15kts INTO the wind and waves and he was throwing a fair amount of spray. Great kite weather. Boating, not so much...
 
The stabilizer fluid is cooled by either an electric raw water pump or a raw water tap off one of your engines.

If they over heated they were not getting the proper amount of cooling water. Or the raw water going to them off an engine is to hot to cool them properly under higher loads/use.

They should not over heat no matter how hard they are working.

Of course it could be the heat exchanger for them needs to be cleaned out.

menzies: How'd you do provisioning. I know you did another thread, but just out of curiosity how'd you find that part of the trip. Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

My summary. We bought all the meat and other stuff we could freeze (veggies like peppers, stuff like tortillas, onions etc) and stored them in our home freezer before we left in case the boat lost power with put us knowing.

Then the day before we transferred it to the boat - and found that the fridge freezer on the boat was smaller. Rather than leave stuff behind I ran to Wally World and bought a $149 HiSense chest freezer and stuck it in the corner of the salon.

There is where we made a mistake. We put the overflow stuff in there and were happy. But it was only a third full. Looking back we should have sat and thought - "What else can we freeze?" Milk for one and we should have bought a dozen quarts and threw them in there. More veggies that freeze well. Etc. Etc. We just were so rushed we missed that opportunity.

But frankly the missus did an awesome job. We replenished fresh where we could, but we would have been fine the last couple of weeks, just eating a mis-mash of different stuff that don't usually go together. But isn't that part of the experience?

Our guests were amazed at the meals we were putting out (so was I). My wife got very proficient at bread and pizza making, so we could have that any time we wanted.

She also rues the fact that she did not pre-make meals. She had planned on cooking everything from scratch. There were some days where she just could not be bothered to cook and defrosting already made meals would have been great.

One other area that was a gap was that we ran out of wine after two months. As we look back we couldn't see what else we could have done. We did have storage space but not where you would want to store wine. The quality of the wine out there is not great - unless you want to pay $40 a bottle for what you would pay $12 here.

The rum is good and cheap in the Bahamas and after the third one you can't tell the difference from wine.

I did try the Myers as that was the rum the bars were using for their cocktails, but I just couldn't get to like the taste - tasted like medicine.

Maybe I was too heavy handed with the pour? :D

Don't know if you have or thought of this.

We have a Soda Stream on board. You can buy different additives to flavor as you like. The one we use is Tonic. I drink mainly gin and tonics. This allows you not to carry bottles or cans as you're using the water you make (or carry).
Works best for just straight soda water. For that length of trip you probably want to tank a couple of extra Co2 cartridges though.
