Woke up to deflated fenders this morning due to cold temperatures in NE Florida. We must be too far north!

Pointing the bow south (Key Largo) to remedy this problem......

Well w “out cruis’in” we haven’t got the vaguest idea where you are.

That’s a common thing for fenders in northern climes to do.
So you’re not north.

Apparently, it was warmer in Newfoundland than Florida recently :D

We are liveaboards in a marina 10 miles south of Annapolis. Overnight low was 23 degrees. Cabin temp was 43 degrees when we woke up but we were warm and toasty underneath our down comforter. Turned on the reverse cycle to warm the innards to 72 degrees in a couple of hours.

So my now 26 day COVID war messed up my plans to winterize. (Kent island, Chesapeake) I did keep an eye on temperatures, including water temperature (I'm in the water) and except for a few brief dips into the 30-31 range I've been skating by. Yesterdays forecast was for 8 hours of 26.... (Which happened). So we spent the last two days hanging on the boat with the heat pumps going keeping us nice and toasty. I've got till about January 9th after this to get it all pinked up.

Oh, It was plenty north for me. I'll just keep going south until they re-inflate on their own. :D:D

:D:D My blood has been thinning over the last two years.....

Had the Chinese diesel heater running full blast in the pilothouse the whole day down here to Ponce Inlet --- anchored in the shadow of the lighthouse.

You need to fill them with winter air.

You need to fill them with winter air.

So I got the compressor out a few months ago and inflated mine. One got a little over inflated and no longer fits in the nice bracket on the foredeck.....

Anyone know how to let the air out? Sticking the "needle" in there by itself did not do the trick.

Does on mine, what make fenders? Needle all the way in?

What brand fenders?

We just got back from our Christmas cruise. First night was cold, but my Chinese diesel heater kept up just fine (didn't run it at night). It took a while to heat up in the morning, but that was understandable. We had ice cycles on the stanchion rails and temps were mid-20's. Next night was gale force winds and I left the heater on idle. No problem with heat (outside temps went up into the 40's). I didn't think to check whether my fenders stayed fully inflated. More important things to worry about.

I did get a picture of these Christmas seals across from Port Townsend. Also a picture of Santa in his nuclear submarine escorted by two giant tugs and 5 gunboats (not shown). I kept a 1nm CPA and that seemed okay.

We're in the Charlotte Harbor area and it's a bit chilly here today. We get cyclical cold fronts frequently during the winter months. We found that north Florida is too cold for us.

Popped right back out! Fully round -- no compressor needed!

I think I'm going to call it the "Key Largo Inflation Method"!

Excellent plan!

10 degrees north, never a problem with my fenders... :socool:

I'm much farther north. My fenders won't see daylight for a few months. I may jet to Key West for a sun fix. Best to you heading south!

Greetings,
Mr. MM. That's Newfoundland AND Labrador to you, mainlander.

Governmentally speaking, they are 'Newfoundland and Labrador', one Canadian province. But I assure you they are two completely separate places, one on the mainland (Labrador) and one on an island (Newfoundland) which is pronounced New-Found-LAND. It is entirely appropriate to refer to Newfoundland as a separate entity.

Arrrgh, I feel your pain friend... I spent some time north of the Arctic Circle and while the northern lights were beautiful, I soon exhausted my supply of Akvavit and steamed south preferring the smooth aged rums and tropical fruits to polar bears and lutfisk ! :iagree:

Thanks for rubbing it in!!! lol

Love the thread! Please keep us posted on the trip.

When it gets really cold on board many compasses will grow a bubble from the oil shrinking in the cold.

I hope to never see that!

It worked! Filled back out perfectly! No air compressor needed!
I'm going to name this "Florida Keys fender inflation method"....??
