Has anyone been? I just read an article on it and it looks like a fun place.

Visited the marina a half dozen times and kniw the area well as a good friend lives nearby.

Did they say anything in particular?

The marina is sorta by itself with some shops/restaurants/ offices on site...but not much.

St Simons Island is nice/fun but typical of many seaside resort areas along the East Coast.

If looking at a 30 mile radius...yep lots to see and do....but again not unique to that marina or Brunswick, Ga.

Not really. The article was in Power & Motoryacht. From the article and pictures it looks like a fun place. Just curious if the cruisers going North and south make this a regular stop over.

We stop in Brunswick with the land yacht and like the area. Some good restaurants and a nice RV Resort.

I've only been in once while delivering a friend's GB from FL to CT. It's not particularly close to anything, as noted, but they'd done a good job of making it into a nice stopover. Had a restaurant and cute "shoppes," which the ladies on board appreciated. That was before it became a Morningstar, so they've probably gone even more upscale.

For transients, they have a long face dock parallel to the ICW channel. When the Great Yacht Migration is happening, the dockmaster works hard to maximize every lineal foot on both sides of the face dock, and I must say he's good at what he does.

After having been anchored out for a few nights, eating out of the freezer, we all (two couples) enjoyed the marina stopover. If it fit in to my trip plan, I'd certainly hit the place up again.

Having lived in the area and worked at nearby Kings Bay GA, my only criticism of the area is (was) the paper mills in Brunswick, Fernandina Beach and St Marys GA. I understand the mill in St Marys is now closed but not sure about Brunswick. Fernandina still going strong as I understand it.

Really bad smells & water from those mills. My wife gets an instant headache from the smell - not a pleasant experience.

Great golf courses on Jekyll Island plus the grand old hotel. :thumb:

A more common stop is Bruswick landing which is downtown. But is farther off the ICW than Golden Isles.

The smell usually comes from the sewage plant down the street a bit.

Never smelled anything over at Golden Isles or St Simon's Island.

Brunswick Landing is near the commercial wharves and that area is a noted hurricane hole that the Navy used to use....not sure when and why they stopped.

I believe the smell is from a pulp plant in the area and is very obvious in certain wind conditions.

I have spent a lot of time there (boat was also hauled and painted one year). My friend who lives there and was commodore of the Sailing club was the one who said the sewage plant was the more guilty of the smell producers near the marina. It is just about between the mill and the marina.

I tend to agree with my friend but different noses and tolerances may be in play.

Either way....both can be unpleasant for some staying at Brunswick Landing.

Sewage plant may very well be the culprit around marina. I was by there a couple times didn't hang around. The mill odor covers a wider area with stack and dispersion and is a rather unmistakable smell...as is sewage for that matter.
As I recall the mill stack & plume is visible from a distance.
