Hello Everyone!
We live in Southern Maryland where we enjoy the Chesapeak Bay. Currently own a 2007 Sea Ray 260 looking to step up to a Mainship 390 to enjoy crusing the bay. Torn between single vs twin diesels but it appears Im not alone. However, warming up to the idea of a single because of the realiability of a diesel, less maintenance, less diesel, and more room in the engine compartment. Currently looking at a 2003 with twins but not over looking the single engines.

Looking forward to being member in this fourm.

No problem...all the twin guys will give a zillion reasons why twins are better.

Hard to argue with except all the happy single owners...go figure....

There is no right answer...you just have to make a decision and live with it...but no one decision is more correct than the other.

Thx psneeld! So I take it you have a single? I have diesel in my truck but this will be a first in a boat. Any recommended threds to look at to get folks perspective single vs twins?

Cheers!

That's the point...there is no perspective...there is only opinion.

I am a single guy but will admit...with the right boat and money...yes I would love twins...and If I cruised remote areas...I would have a twin or a single with a serious get home engine (which is dang near a twin anyhow).

But again...for 99.9 % of the discussion....a case can be made for the other. So read up all you want...in the end it should just come down to what you want/will live with.

Yep, just do a search right here. This debate has been going on almost as long as the anchor one.

Shouldn't be too hard to find, the discussion comes up a lot.

Again, you're going to have to decide for yourself. I was leaning toward a single, but when this boat came up and I liked everything else about it, I was willing to compromise on that point. No regrets, I like handling twins better anyway, although sometimes I worry about having less protection for the running gear.

Welcome aboard! When I was looking, I had thought of the pros and cons of both...and it turned out, I really didn't care either way. If it were a single, I'd prefer one with a bow thruster or at least the ability to install a bow thruster fairly easily. It came down to the boat. The boat I bought had everything I wanted......and had twins...I bought it. If it had had a single, I'd still have bought it. Good luck to you!
