Fire protection has been my field of expertise for nearly 50 years. The coast guard requires an extinguisher that meets their requirements. This include the hangar that goes along with it and is subject to that same approval. You can dig into their requirement but may never find why one hangar over another was approved. Nevertheless the fire extinguisher and hangar are approved together. It is very unlikely that anything will ever come of one substituting a different hangar than was approved but it remains that technically you should not make substitutions from the approvals.
