Radar for crab traps revisted

Have a new Garmin Fantom 24" radar and 2 10" displays, (8610 and 8410xvs)


I'm trying to tune the radar to show crab traps, unsuccessful for now. Following some of the info on this thread:

I've set the radar to lowest and playing with settings, without luck. Any ideas?


FWIW, my old Simrad radar showed them well.

FWIW, my old Simrad radar showed them well.

When you say lowest settings...what settings?

Try generic settings:
Range shortest possible
Rain clutter to zero
Sea clutter to zero
Gain as high as you can without wiping everything out.

My now 17-year-old Furuno 18-inch, domed radar has no problem displaying birds sitting on the water or flying low when it is calm, but I don't think I have ever tried to see if it can display a syrofoam ball only 6-8 inches in diameter as that seems like a srtetch. I shall check it out soon.

WAG. The radar beam is pointing too high. By this I mean all radar has a beam with a vertical low to high as it sweeps and if the low/bottom is pointing too far ahead it will not see what you want it to see.

You may need a shim to bring the beam down.
