With the announced closure of all of Yahoo Groups I am anticipating more of the Yahoo Mainship (MS) Owners will be coming over to Trawler Forum, at least to see what we have to offer for Mainship owners.
I thought I’d take an opportunity to welcome and introduce those MS owners, coming over to “look us over”, to the workings of Trawler Forum.
Some tips for getting started and getting the most out of Trawler Forum (aka TF)
1.TF is an online community that has some rules – Please read through and abide by the Community Rules available via a link on the bottom banner of forum pages or the following link https://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/misc.php?do=sknetwork&page=rules
2.A recommended starting point is the How To Use The Forum, Site News & Account Concerns section that contains 2 useful “Stickies” at the top of the thread listing - Forums 101 - Set up your account | Help, Tips, etc https://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/s22/forums-101-set-up-your-account-|-help-tips-etc-5739.html and How to Post Pictures https://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/s22/how-post-pictures-50850.html
3.Next a great way to get started posting is in the Welcome Mat section – with a “sticky” New Member Orientation 102 https://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/s53/new-member-orientation-102-a-14814.html
This is the place to start posting by introducing yourself and getting to know other TF members. Tip: It’s best to keep this as an intro / getting to know others area and to post any questions or requests for help in the appropriate TF section
4.TF Topic Organization – unlike the Yahoo MS Group TF has an extensive structure to keep info and posts organized and more useful to everyone. It is best to scan through the various topic headings to decide where best to post your question of request. There are gray areas but if you post in the correct area you are more likely to get more and better responses. As a caution – the Marlow – Mainship forum will likely attract other MS owners for MS specific topics but may miss other very knowledgeable members that may review other topic headings such as Power Systems for Yanmar engine posts. Occasionally moderators will move a post to a more closely aligned section but in almost all cases a link to the relocated post will remain in the original section.
5.Unlike the MS Yahoo group, TF has a number of active Moderators & Admins (Site Team) that work behind the scenes to help organize, move, edit and sometimes delete posts as well as assist TF members and basically keep things moving smoothly and respectfully. Any significant violation of TF Community Rules will be handled off line by the Site Team. If you need to contact a moderator you can find them as bolded user names at the bottom of main Trawler Forum page that lists members currently online and those that have visited within 24 hours. By clicking on a user name will bring you to the member / moderator User Profile from which you can click on Contact Info and Personal Message (PM) that person.
6.TF includes a Classified Section to benefit our members. The Classified Section has a set of Classified Posting Guidelines that can be found at the top of each classified section. https://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/announcement.php?f=9
7.The TF Library section contains many files that are available for download. These include manuals, system information, forms and checklists. Feel free to download files of interest and upload files that may be of interest to others. (Note: a moderator will review file uploads before they become available to members so there can be a short time delay) The Library is available from a Link/ Tab at the very top right of TF pages
8. If you would like to Subscribe to the Marlow-Mainship Forum and receive emails re: New and Modified Posts go to the M-M Forum and click on the Forum Tools drop down and select Subscribe To This Forum
9. Lastly – for anyone wanting to display your TF Membership and welcome interaction while on the water – TF has it’s own burgee and they are available via Burgee Notice link near the top forum pages.
