Having similar spousal issues, on Vancouver Island, and new to ‘open sea boating’ we have taken baby steps.
That being said, my 28’ handles the Salish sea fairly well, no flybridge. I think 33’ flybridge on this coast makes the boat too square. Try a smaller boat, or calmer seas.

Welcome from someone just south of you. Definitely work hard to make your spouse as comfortable and happy as possible. Two different good friends stopped boating all together due to spousal "unhappiness" with the boating experience.
