Curiosity won out so I swung by Anacapa Boatyard earlier today to have a look.
It does exist so probably not a scam. As the owner states, he has 'a big project'.

A bid of $3500 would currently be the winner.
Better move fast as there are only 3 hours left in the auction!

Looks like it sold

Wrong time, wrong place. Just curious if anyone had bid and won any boats on Ebay. I've never gone more than buying cheap motorcycles there. Much easier to store and transport. If a bargain showed up closer to me, I'd have to give it a look. I'd be interested in looking at a sailing dingy or up 16' sailboat with a trailer.

Pretty happy with what we have right now.

I bought a Mastercraft ski boat about 15 years ago on ebay. Well, kind of bought it through ebay. I bid on it but didn't win it due to being under the reserve. I ended up contacting the guy after the sale and gave him a bit more to get to his asking price. The boat was a cream puff and located in Oregon. We met halfway in the Bay Area to do the deal and I drove home with the boat to San Diego in the same day. Still have the boat today.

I always have liked these. Anyone on here ever own one? Tell us about it if so. I'm sure this needs refreshing, but Fresh water it's whole life and stored indoors winters.

Only a few made as I understand. Quite a fanatical following of owners. I read their web site frequently. Some are powered with a BMW diesel which is why I follow the site. I own a BMW diesel on a test stand. The engine was too large to fit into my small engine space. I will get around to doing something with it someday. If anyone has one of these I would not mind comparing notes.

Really surprising that there are no engine room images. Looks lovely, though.

In the photo of the black tug.
I like the aft stern line dragging in the water! Right by the prop, what could possibly go wrong?

A new Schionning Alaskan 44 PC

Already motored from Thailand to NZ so might be OK in blue water.

1.4l/nm at 12kn is pretty good.

Flybridge only steering is a hard no from me but others might like it.

Interesting boat. I realize it has made significant passages so should have accurate fuel burn data, but having spent some quality time on a 52-foot power cat (albeit at 2.5x the displacement), I'm a bit skeptical at the published fuel burn numbers. Works out to 4.5 gph at 12 kts for a 40-foot waterline. Also a bit skeptical at the 18/19-kt top speed with a pair of 110hp engines. Even dry/empty, seems very optimistic.

Still, ticks a lot of boxes. Good contribution.

Peter

PS - not having helm is fine by me. Lower helm is nice in longer passages but also nice to have more interior space for the 98% of usage time. Double edged sword.

Thailand to NZ is a significant journey and very impressive. It’s a shame the broker doesn’t have enough knowledge to ping the owner for more accurate fuel burn numbers.

However one of the great advantages of a power cruiser is sitting at the helm in your pajamas and bunny slippers, sipping a hot drink, with the HVAC system keeping you comfortable while it’s freezing cold, pouring rain or desert hot outside. ie, a flybridge may be a nice embellishment to a power cruiser, but a pilothouse is a must, IMO.

If you look closely at the pictures of the bidge, front windows at least are solid - center one has a windshield wiper. Similar to the Horizon PC I've been aboard for perhaps 1000 nms. Heavily sloped windows have their own set of problems - green house effect really heats up the area and requires AC even in modest sun, but it is certainly a well protected and comfortable space. I'd have no concerns, but agree, it's a personal choice.

Peter

The head, food and AC are inside and that’s a good thing.

Prop Drive Systems, belt & hydraulic

Admittedly these ides are a bit dated, but some could be applicable

Perhaps even a counter-rotating belt drive like this,..

'Green House Effect' from Sloped Windows

You could always adopt something like this,..
https://youtu.be/PYcBlYWq95s?t=99

I recall another idea where there were there were a few horizontal steps put in front of those forward widows and could be used as steps to get up on the deckhouse roof. (having trouble remembering that designs name)

PS: Dudley Dix design

That break in the steps is actually a small forward cockpit for the base on the sailing rig's mast

As we all know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think the Leen 50 is beautiful, and the Nordic 42, to me, is beautiful in quite a different way. Where we come from, forward sloping windows (like your beautiful Ahi) are really practical, for reducing the greenhouse effect, let alone for being able to see better at night. The Leen's windows, compared to the cats immediately above your post, are much better in this regard.
