430 Lower helm ships wheel
My lower helm wheel is really loose. I took of the cover and found the nut as tight as possible but I still can mover the wheel forward and backwards quite a bit. Does anyone have an idea on what I can do to fix this ? We have a 2001. 430 aft cabin

Failing any other help and you need a replacement wheel, consider looking at marinehardware.com which may well have been the original source for yours.

Is the wheel turning on the shaft or is the play in the shaft too?

If your wheel is like mine, a teak arrangement with a bronze hub perhaps it's just the wheel looseness from shrinking of the teak wood that fits in the hub. Mine was loose and I was able to shim it up a little.
Just a quick search turns this up... You are being redirected... and this... https://ericsonyachts.org/ie/threads...s-wheel.10736/ May post a picture of what your working with... |
What about adding a washer or two behind the wheel. That may take up the slack.

Problem solved. It is a Stazo Marine wheel. I sent an email to the parent company in Holland and they are sending me a new one free of charge.
