I connected 2 sections of BBB 3/8" Anchor chain with a Crosby 3/8" G-335 Missing*Link.

I added a small wrap of SS safety wire as a extra measure. See pic.

Is this a bad idea?
Dissimilar metal corrosion?

I was going to do that too but chickened out and replaced the whole chain. My chain was at end of life. How long are the sections?
 
Nothing wrong as long as it goes through windlass.

I am about to do same
 
I would not worry about dissimilar metals. I would inspect it once a year and if you don't like what you see, replace the replaceable link.
