    1983 GB 36 classic

I believe that if you loosen the tree small screws around the lower ring of the bronze shell, it will lift off. That leaves the nav light accessible. Pretty sure the lens is a bayonet fit so gently try twisting it counterclockwise.

Thank you Parks. I suppose I will have to live with it.

    GB bronze seacock parts

I have a similar issue on my 1981 GB with Wilcox-Crittendon (sp?) seacocks where I wish to change a 1” hose fitting to 3/4”. I would be interested to know if you identify the thread on the male end at the output end of the seacock.

    Whoops, posted incorrectly. Sorry.

Tri Clamp or Threaded Ball Valves

I am interested in what you ascertain you ascertain the thread to be. The seacocks on Unicorn (1981) are Wilcox- Crittendon and at the outlet have a male thread over which a collar threads and allows a 90 deg elbow to pivot. It is a 1” hose fitting I want to remove to 3/4”. I don’t want to use a...

    Warm up 120HP lehman

A somewhat related question for other Lehman 120 operators. Our single has about 10,000 hours and has operated faultlessly in all that time. On startup, as the water temp increases at what I consider to be a normal rate, it creeps past 180 slowly to almost 200 on the gauge (original) and stays...

    Spin-on fuel filter

See attached. I believe mine is a Caterpillar item but a cruising buddy obtained an aftermarket one at lordco here in Canada. It bolts to the head in place of the old one but required a spacer (I think an old bearing) at the rear mounting hole. It requires new fuel lines from the fuel pump to...

borg warner shaft gasket/ seal leaking

If you use ATF in your transmission instead of 30wt oil, and it is transmission fluid you are seeing, then I would lean towards a leaky seal being the cause. In any event there is a dye you can add to the fluid which will help to isolate the cause. On Unicorn, it was apparent at the joint...

borg warner shaft gasket/ seal leaking

Likely the front seal on the transmission has failed. A fairly easy fix and can be done in the water. Our 36GB single had more than enough space between the cutluss bearing and rudder to allow the transmission to be slid free of the engine drive shaft. You will probably need to uncouple the...

    Ford Lehman exhaust system

It should be changed to a mixing elbow. The problem with the box system arises when the internal baffles inevitably corrode, which allows salt water access to #6 cylinder At least that is how it it has been explained to me. I replaced mine at about 3000 hours with an American Diesel mixing elbow...

    Stuffing box and prop shaft

Packing is dead easy to replace. I would look at YouTube, but some pointers. Do when boat is out of the water. To remove the packing I use a long shaft small blade screwdriver on which I’ve bent the last 1/2” to 90 deg. You need to ascertain the packing size which you can do by using drill bits...

    Lehman Filter Changes

This thread has drifted, but perhaps Lehman 120 operators might be interested in the injection pump filler plug removal tool a friend milled up for me. The slot in mine was getting chewed up, even tho I used a large screw driver. BTW I checked with a reputable fuel injection service shop here...

    Lehman Filter Changes

A great improvement for the secondary filter is to replace the dual cannisters with a large single. Also to avoid the mess when changing oil is to punch a hole in the upper side of the filter. This allows the filter to drain into the crankcase. Then put a piece of tape over the hole and undo. A...

    Best Battery Switch?

Are you sure it has died? Our 42 year old Perko (1,2, both and off) was not connecting to one bank. I was going to replace but spoke first to my electrician. Apparently with not a lot of switching, and I hadn’t been, the contacts can get corroded (if that’s the term) and just need to get shiny...
