Earlier in the year, SD-1, the San Diego sea buoy was reported as "missing." The CG said it sunk in 80 feet of water, but some of the boating community thought it was taken out as a cost-saving measure as it was a high maintenance device with a light, RACON and solar panels. The CG said they would replace the buoy with an AIS signal as a "virtual" buoy. After many complaints by the boating public, i.e., yacht clubs and racing associations, the CG has announced that SD-1 will be back on station in September. Amazin' what some "vox populi" can get done.
