I like the retro look of this motor sailor ( if it will be not me who must do the varnish ! :) )
But I don't understand this amazing high diesel consumption !?
6/7 kts = 7 to 8 gal per hour !? It means average 4.35 lt per nm I think mistake between gal and liter ? Because 4.35lnm it is more than our actual need at 10 kts

That is a cool boat! Let's form a yachtshare and buy it. And while 500k is nothing to sneeze at, and we all know it's just the ticket to admission...I wonder what it needs? With inflation etc seems reasonable. I'm a sucker for old cool boats, I guess I grew up on John Wyane movies lol.


74’ 7” (22.8m) Custom passage maker was a one-off design ordered by William Weinberg in 1964. The Naval Architect – GEORGE W. MOORE – was given this project and PIONEER became a reality. George W. Moore’s background comes from reestablishing the Royal British Naval fleet after WWII. His extensive knowledge of how to build a ship, not a boat, was very important to Mr. Weinberg. This vessel was built for the purpose of crossing oceans, and it was a must to have an exceptional long range. Using the best equipment and materials was a priority. But the living space was not to be neglected and had to have class according to Mr. Weinberg’s tastes. Thus in 1967 “PIONEER” was launched from San Diego CA. PIONEER has been admired where ever she has landed. Over the years, she has been continually updated. Upgrades through the years have focused on keeping the gorgeous teak, dark walnut and mahogany finishings in place and made beautiful changes to areas that should be updated. Today she boasts a modern flair of interior design that gives off a feeling of comfortable sophistication. PIONEER is currently for sale and moored in Victoria, British Columbia.
Located in the Victoria International Marina with assumable moorage.

That is the coolest boat and only 110k! Talking about inexpensive housing, of course until you start to think about maintenance. But the cool part is Fess Parker. We visited his vineyards in 18, and purchased a 30 Fairchild Scout in Long Beach, Naples CA to be exact, having it shipped to upstate SC. Lesson in there is I just don't have good luck with Ukrainian truckers. The wine is excellent and they have won a number of awards

1961 CheoyLee Trawler TEAKLADYGorgeous solid old teak CheoyLee Trawler. Built in Hongkong. Single Detroit diesel engine. Tremendous live aboard potential. Hauled at Koehler Kraft a couple of years ago. Two heads. Bathtub. Three staterooms. Aft stern amazing. Vessel is like being in a fine piece of furniture. Owned at one time by Fess Parker of Davey Crockett/daniel Boone/Disney fame.
 
That does look like a great boat, that is well priced. I will guess at why it looks so cheap.
1. I bet it would cost a lot more than 100-200K to have it brought back to super nice yacht spec if hired it out. I bet if you brought it into a high quality yard and had them fix all the issues you could easily hit the $800K price you mentioned. (It still might be an ok deal if you love the rest of the boat.
2. That is a SLOW trawler (Similar to mine). A lot of the similar size Nordhavn, Northern marine, etc, advertise a faster cruise speed.
3. No swim step in the back, and high side gates. Makes it hard to swim off of, get in and out of dingy, and get on and off it at the dock. Especially when first coming in when you might not want the boarding steps hanging out in harms way.
4. Deep draft.

This is my current crush. It is right at the $800k price point, and similar in many ways to this boat.
Totally agree with you. That Northern is one hell of a boat. Like it better than their current version which doesn’t have full wrap around decks. Also doesn’t those large areas of glass in the hull which seems to be the recent fad for the last few years. Would buy it in a heart beat if I didn’t have the one I have now. Figure it would be gone by the time I sold this one and would have to sell my other toys as well.

Anyone else notice the interesting exhaust setup on that Northern? It has what looks like a dry muffler and very long line over to the shower nozzle on the down side. I suppose that makes for little chance of ingestion of salt water into the turbo/engine. One would think it's also pretty quiet.
 
Yes there’s a detailed writ up on their site about exhaust. TT pointed out what he thinks is the downside to it. If I understand him correctly it’s corrosion in the system over time. Would think if done with good SS that would be manageable.

Cruising at 6-8 knots she has a range of 4300-7000 nautical miles, and she has 1700g (6500L). So guess would be around 1L/nm at 6kn, and 1.5L/nm at 8kn. Both are decent but not particularly amazing for a good powercat. I bet her 12-15kn values would be really interesting though!

Oh, and 72cm/28.4" props :oops:.

Our former Long Cours 62 doing better at this speed, may be they running generator ?
6kts was 0.68 pnm
7 kts was 0.81lt per nm
8.4 kts was ( full (over) loaded at 34T and just launched with fresh bottom paint ) 1.38lt pnm

And Long-Cours was not the more economical choice ,could be better if :
only one engine, not the turbulence of the dagger's box, only a rudder without (aileron) skeg ?
But above the hull speed the catamaran will probably take advantage :)
Our theoretical autonomy (no wind, no current, take ALL the diesel from the tank)
was at 8.4kts 4700nm, at 7kts 9000nm.
And I am so stupid ...I sold her and now not able to built an another because the price for the hull since 2000 was X by 4 only for the hull.... :-(
