Being somewhat COVID-restricted I’ve been doing some daydreaming on You Tube. It seems like almost all new boat designs over 50 feet incorporate a huge hydraulic swim platform for dinghies, watercraft, beach clubs, etc. whilst hardly a trawler subject, quite a few highlight their “trawler chops” and range.

My question for the group is - does anyone have practical experience with these elongated platforms? I’m especially curious about safety in following seas. It seems to me that one or two good “poops” and those platforms could get torn off the transom - yet almost all are “B” rated and some are “A” rated under EU standards.

Am I just an old curmudgeon or is there a genuine safety issue that is being overlooked? (Theories are welcomed but practical experience highly valued, even if based on retrofitted platforms)
