Does anyone know what this plaque might be from? It was attached with flat head screws and appears to be close to the edge of the boat with engraved numbering on it. It reads number 626798 net 18. Haven’t heard about it from anybody else and just noticed it when I was pulling the hatch up the other day. Any thoughts are appreciated

Documentation number?

Ted

Documentation number. 18 net tons is referring to the documentation tonnage. Back in colonial times a ton of cargo was 100 cubic feet. So net tons is the “cargo” carrying space on your boat. Net tons do not include engine spaces. If the boat is no longer documented then you can remove the plaque. But if it is still documented then the interior marking is required. Net tonnage has nothing to do with weight, strictly a volume measurement. To be exactly correct the plaque is supposed to say NO XXXXXX. The NO is for number.

Perfect! Thank you so much!

I know this is a couple weeks old, but yes, it is a documentation number and if the plaque is attached by a couple of screws, it does not meet CG requirements, saying it must be permanently attached where if removed, would be obvious.
Now, if the plaque was attached with 3M 5200, it would meet requirements
