    Aging

    I would probably downsize to an outboard powered cruiser like a C-Dory. We cruised BC and SE Alaska in our CD22. It's a far simpler boat, requiring far less maintenance, and yet very capable. Smaller, yes. Trailerable, so I could keep it at home, and could visit the east coast, big lakes etc.

    Groveling in the engine room is getting tougher for me at 77, but so far so good, both physically and mentally. I'll quit or downsize when I no longer feel completely up to a summer's cruise of the Inside Passage, and all that entails.

    My thrusters needed work after fairly frequent use over 6,800 engine hours. This past August I willingly spent a few thousand to put them back in like-new condition. I would not choose another single-engine inboard-powered boat without at least a bow thruster.

    Charging batteries and 12 V system underway

    My single engine NT 37 has nine g31 12v agm batteries. Four for house, two for starting, two for bow thruster and windlass, and one for stern thruster and downrigger. With external regulation and ACR's, one 105A alternator charges them all just fine. A 145A alternator does it a little faster.

    You may want to check dimensions on Rocna's web site, and make sure the one you choose will fit your setup. On my NT37, the 25 is a bit too long, so I chose a 20.

    Our NT37 has a 20kg Rocna. Our 26-footer had a 10kg Rocna. Both terrific in hundreds of overnights all over the Inside Passage from Puget Sound to Glacier Bay. I figure a 15kg Rocna would be fine for your 32. Or a 20 if you want to go big.

    Southeast Alaska towns/harbors

    Petersburg would probably be my choice. No big cruise ships. Winter weather not too bad. Several friends keep their boats there. Lots of fishing business. Sitka also a fave.
