- We expect ads placed to be related to the topic of this forum.
- Ads that are inactive for 180 days or longer may be moved to the Classified Archive and locked. Ads may be relisted if the item is still current. Alternatively, owners may contact a Moderator to reinstate an archived ad.
- The Classified section is for advertising, members are asked to refrain from posting discussions to a Classified Ad. Please start a discussion thread or PM the owner for discussions.
- Do not hijack another member's ad by posting unsolicited commentary. Example: if a member has posted an ad offering an anchor for sale, don't add a post to his thread stating that you have an anchor you'd like to get rid of also. Posts deemed as unsolicited commentary may be removed.

Be aware that there are unscrupulous folks out there. Avoid any interaction that seems odd to you or �feels� wrong. Inquiries from unknown buyers, buyers �agents� and other non-traditional approaches should be treated with extreme caution.
Beware of unsolicited contacts offering to put you in touch with someone else who is buying or selling via e-mail or text.
Do not post your e-mail address or phone number in a classifieds ad.
Hints that you may be dealing with a Scammer:
- Seller or Buyer approaches you via a direct email or PM and then steers you to an off-site communication method (text or email).
- No posts or very few forum posts.
- Recent forum membership
- Insists on conducting negotiations via email or text rather than PM
- Requires payment via Bank Transfer, BitCoin/CryptoCurrency, WesternUnion or other unsecured method.
- Buyer or Seller suggests Paypal "Friends and Family" payment. Paypal is a good way to arrange payment but an invoice for goods and services should be used rather than "Friends and Family". "Friends and Family" avoids fees BUT there is no recourse if the transaction runs aground. Friends and Family is for gifts only. There is no protection for Friends and Family transactions, so never ever use it to buy something.
- Declines to allow viewing the item before proceeding with the transaction.

There's one listed locally to me (Rochester, NY) by RCR Yachts. It does have the Detroit 8.2s, but with enough hours I wouldn't be too worried about them. And the price reflects the engines, I think (it's been listed for a year with a couple price drops, so they may have further wiggle room on price). From what I've seen of the boat it looks to be well cared for (and I've seen it stored inside over the last few winters since we've been at our current marina).
The DD 8.2 gets a bad rep but there are ways to minimize problems. The first is to run them slow. That engine will run nearly forever at displacement speeds.
The second is to install a vent line for the cooling system on the #6 cylinder. At heavier loads a gas pocket can develop on #6, and block coolant flow. The vent eliminates that problem.
Google the engine. There was a mechanic that was a real pro on that engine and can add the vent for you.
Another problem was over stressing the head bolts at heavy loads. They can be replaced with higher tensile bolts. Again, talk to The Guy.

It gets a bad rap because they can't be rebuilt. I just recently ran into this issue with a Sabre 36 with the 8.2's and one of them was locked up. The owner had quite a conundrum, and I verified this with a local DD expert. While all the other DD's can still be repaired and rebuilt, he referred to the 8.2 as "a throwaway engine". This owner's only option was to repower the boat at a cost of what the boat is worth with two working engines.

Plenty of diesels have gotten the derogatory "throw away" nickname attached over the years. Typically that comes from a mechanic used to heavy duty wet sleeve engines. A non sleeved engine can be rebuilt, just typically not rebuilt in place. And it can only be rebuilt a couple of times rather than indefinitely. Heck, even the much loved Cummins B series isn't sleeved.
But as long as parts are out there, I can't think of any reason you can't rebuild an 8.2.

I'll think you'll find most of the Fast Trawler series will have the 8.2's, it was the standard engine in early boats. Cats were installed in later models. That model was built between 1989-98, we're Sabre dealers.
There's a 36 in OH with 3116 Cats. The Detroits aren't bad engines assuming they've been taken care of, like any other engine. Cooling system parts can be scarce, I think that's the problem you'll encounter more than anything. The 36 Fast Trawler is a nice boat in any event, you'll like it.
