when farms were filled with atlantic salmon, their sampling in this area routinely pulled up juvenile wild salmon infested with lice. Since december 2020, discovery island fish farms have been slowly emptied, and this year, after emptying them all, the juvenile salmon jody and farlyn are pulling up are virtually lice free!

what was the take away here? Atlantic salmon are lice infested or fish farmed salmon are lice infested? If the issue is Atlantic salmon, why are wild salmon not farmed? Thanks.

Atlantic salmon have introduced a problem that did not exist. Fish Farms on migratory routes invite the fry to feed below pens and pick up the lice. Maybe the same would occur with Pacific farmed salmon and wild stock.

Is it because they are Atlantic salmon, unsure as the question still remains why Atlantic and not Pacific being farmed. Lice are found on adult Pacific salmon too. There are other disease introduced as well.

Fact is we need more food for humans, the fact is these farms are in locations on Pacific migratory routes. There are many nooks and crannies on our coast away from know routes, use them, relocate, but eliminate on the known routes.
