A good friend of mine, and a close friend of the owners, sent me the following pictures of the loss of the WILLIAM B, an 80' restored '44-vintage tug in Newport Beach.
Tug Boat Destroyed in Fire in Newport Beach | NBC Southern California
I've attached two photos my friend shot the next morning. Also attached is a photo of the DONALD R, her sistership, now renamed and berthed in Everett.
No news yet of cause of the fire, but an electrical fault aboard is suspected. No news of ultimate fate of WM B, as (obviously), she's terribly damaged, and quite likely gone for good.
The owners have owned, restored, cruised, and loved the WM B for many, many years. She was a SoCal icon, and will be sorely missed.
Sigh.
