We have remotes at each helm with a short length of cable (5 - 8 feet) available behind the consoles through a large hole, nicely trimmed, through which the cable can easily slide. There's no reel or take up mechanism. The cable hangs loose behind/inside the console, much like the sprayer hose under a kitchen sink, but there's no sliding weight on the cable. The loose cable under/behind the console is anchored to restrict the available length and to eliminate any strain on connections beyond the loose cable. It's not elegant, but it works, and the 5 - 8 feet of free cable has always been plenty but not so much that it becomes tangled or a nuisance. The inside helm has a wall mount from which the remote hangs nicely above the cord hole. The outside helm remote simply lays on top of the console, but I'd prefer a more secure storage solution. That'll probably be a requirement for my next system, because this one won't last forever.
