I’m removing the ICOM M800 SSB from our boat and will replace it with a short wave receiver, maybe something like a Grundig.

There is also an ICOM AT120 antenna tuner aboard that I’d like to remove UNLESS there is any benefit in connecting a short wave receiver to it. I’m assuming it’s mostly used for transmitting with the ICOM but I don’t anything about SSBs.

Can anyone tell me if the AT120 would have any use with a receive-only SSB?

The AT series are auto tuners. That is, they require a transmitter to actually provide power to allow it to make the necessary return loss measurements.
So, they won’t tune with just a receiver on the other end of the feedline.

Thanks, Dave!
