I had a great time on the water for the Independence Day weekend. In fact, I'm still out here swinging on the hook.
I started in the not-so-secret cove near Terminous. It's a C-shaped island with excellent wind protection, good fishing and wildlife and 10 ft of water. It's a short 5-minute dinghy ride to the marina with a general store, restaurant and bar.
I met up with fellow TFer, Scary and his great family. We had the cove pretty much to ourselves.
We moved to Mandeville Cut for the fireworks show hosted by the Hilton family. It's a great time on the water with approximately 500 other boats. It gets pretty wild and crazy near the "gauntlet" where bikinis, excessive drinking and water fights are the norm. We anchored back a bit from that mayhem at the north end where the boats are spaced out more and most are swinging without stern anchors.
There always seem to be the few yahoos who insist on doing it their way regardless of the majority. This guy set a bow and stern anchor perpendicular to the wind in the swing radius of Scary and my boats.
This is what I saw as the sun set...
...this is what I woke up to the next morning!
I saw Pineapple Girl heading into her marina. We chatted briefly as we passed.
Now we're back in the cove for a night or two before I start heading toward home. May get there Thurs....maybe later... That's the beauty of being retired with a boat and no schedule.
Cheers!!
