Mainship 34 survey

Hello I have a survey for a mainship 34 I am looking at. Some of the things seem a bit serious like leaking fly bridge , swim platform but also the exhaust elbows are smoking. Wooza.

Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing that I can send the report to ?

Your best bet is to update the thread with your boat specifics...year of mfg especially, eng mfg, etc.
Mine is sans-serif the bridge so can't elaborate there but my linked Bacchus website has a listing of the projects I've done and some helpful part links.
The 34s were a popular boat and sure you will get responses to specific questions.
Most MSs ( and other mfgs) have some degree of leaking at the hull / deck joint (rubrail).

There were 3-4 different “MS 34s” over the years:

The 70s era MS 34, in several different trims.
The mid 2000s era 34T flybridge trawler
A version of the 34T w/o a flybridge called the 34HT
The Downeaster style Pilot 34

Which one?

If the boat in question is a 1977 thru 1986 "Nantucket" style, I would take a look at the survey.

Nothing on this survey scares me. In fact it looks like a pretty clean boat. Much of what is called out I would rather fix myself than trust the seller to fix it correctly. I would however ask for a reduction in price to cover the cutlass bearing replacement. Not everyone is mechanically inclined so if you lack the skills then give the seller your list of fixes required to close the deal.

I have pulled my blinds tonfiagnose & repair mine. Hardest part was getting them off & reinstalled. Mfgnsupplies some part under lifetime warranty. Mine now work easily. Having a helper makes removal & reinstall easier.
Mine had a plywood backer board that blinds were secured to and was thevwaynto remove blinds w backer... as I recall blind attachment to the backerbwas hidden and frustrating until figured out.
I think flybridge floor was a frequent diffiency but is repairable fairly easily for someone a handy DIYer.

Price here is $209k my wife would be happy paying $180k to over any unknowns but I think $190k is fair.

If you would be having a yard do any / all repairs I would sit down with a competent yard and have them estimate repairs. Realize they will not guarantee a firm $ but it would provide a factualnstart for negotiating a price or requesting those items you would request the seller repair /replace before a sale.

For what it's worth... a very detailed survey. IMO, All noted defects can be addressed given the right $$ amount to put towards the repairs...

Hi Byron, I purchased a sistership (2007 Mainship 34 with flying bridge) at Hope Island in December and used the same surveyor. The survey was a fantastic resource in price negotiation and the boat is wonderful. Ideal for Australia. Best wishes in your search. Kate

I used SeaTech at Boatworks for my Mainship 34. They have been great.
