I am looking for an ITT Jabsco flange for my 1974 GB 42? Mine is damaged and can’t see a part number or find one. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum, David. I'm unable to help you re your specific request, but it might help you get what you need if I move your thread to a part of the forum more likely to be noticed than in Welcome Mat. :)

Google search finds that it is a Jabsco Waste Deck Fitting, part 38101-0000.

Also sold as a PAR Dual Deck Waste Fitting part 38101.

Found in 1980's vintage magazines and American Marine News, Volume 11 edition 1, page 11.

Good luck.

I know what it is...it's something Jabsco tried in the late 70's that turned out to be something of a disaster...it didn't last long. I first ran across one in 2011...had no idea what it was, so sent a photo to people who'd been in the marine industry for a few decades and got this reply from Jock Allpress: "I worked for Jabsco in those years and do remember the fitting you are showing. It appears to be a plastic fitting which by the time would be of little use. One of the reason the impeller discharge pumps have a 1-1/2" threaded end is because the original thought was that you could screw that in to discharge though the deck plate, but it was never adopted because on the mess issue. There were a number of blow up disasters trying to pump through the deck discharge plate."

The idea was a combination pumpout and macerator discharge deck fitting...the larger 1.25" opening was the pumpout fitting, the smaller 1" opening was the macerator discharge fitting. The pumpout part worked ok...but spewing the contents of a holding tank out a deck fitting didn't. If the operator wasn't careful to make sure the fitting was always on the lee (downwind) side of the boat, or if the wind--even a slight breeze--shifted, the result was a mess that really doesn't need more description. Jabsco tried putting in it the side of the hull, but that didn't work much better so Jabsco scrapped it as a bad idea. Yours is the 3rd or 4th one I've come across, all on boats about the same vintage as yours--one of which was a Grand Banks who was at the Puget Sound GB Owners rendezvous at Roche Harbor several years ago...his was also in the side of the boat as yours appears to be--none with owners who knew what it was but oddly enough, left in place...as a conversation starter I suspect. I have no idea what Jabsco called it...my name for it is the Jabsco Poop Shooter and have often thought it might add a new dimension to water cannon fights.

So the bottom line is, you'll have to install a normal deck pumpout fitting and a thru-hull (below waterline please!) for any overboard tank discharge.

And btw...welcome aboard the Trawler forum!

Thank you Peggie.
I don’t want to use it really. I just want to replace it because it has cracks in the threaded plug part and I’m sure it will at some time in the future just fall apart. So rather than ignore it I chose to replace it if I can. I don’t want to remove it because it will leave two large holes in the side of my Beautiful little ship, which I’m certain would be difficult to repair.

I doubt if you'll find a replacement for sale, but 3D printers are now so inexpensive (as low as $129 on Amazon) that people using 'em are becoming very common, so maybe someone you know--maybe even someone here--can make one for you. A small piece of plastic and a drawing should be all you'd need to furnish...except maybe a bottle of their favorite booze.

The printer is likely a better idea than mine but this would be a good place for some STARBOARD cut to match the shape now present. It could also incorporate the new, replacement deck pumpout fitting.

If you are not handy then do you have any handy friends?

The stuff can be worked with standard handtools and is tough. Use something like butyl rubber tape for the seal to the deck. Standard caulking I would not trust on the Starboard long term.

Agree, I use Starboard for lots of things. The only caulk that will stick is a polymeric caulk by Sudbury. There is also a special 2 part caulk gun that you can buy to use a specific special caulk. I would just use butyl but you need to really compress it and with screws instead of through bolting it sometimes isn’t enough pressure to squeeze the butyl out enough.

Dave ... how did you ever make out with your JABSCO wastewater pumpout flange, 38101-0000?

I have the same deck flanges / fittings (2) on a '79 42' Uniflite Double Cabin Sedan ... the previous owner must have replaced the larger (1.25" or 1.50"?) opening caps with black plastic Perko units marked 'WASTE' ... the o-rings on the Perko caps never make contact with any part of the deck flange openings and the deck flange integral o-rings within the opening are rendered equally non-functional.

I am in Tsawwassen, so quite close to you ... the rains have come and I am faced with re-sealing (next opportunity - should be clearing tom., Thursday) my aft deck flange / fitting (black) that leaks rainwater badly ... it is located in the middle of one of my Port side deck steps (in gunwhale ... kind of like the retrieval well design of the USCG 47 MLB's) and has a crack (upper left in attached photo of black flange / fitting) running from one of the three mounting screw holes towards the larger opening ...

I did not realize what the 1" threaded port was for until I read Peggie (HeadMistress)'s explanation ... I thought it was for introducing fresh water into the holding tank in order aid the flushing out of same ... glad I never got around to trying it that way ...

I'm curious to know if you ever pursued the 3D printer suggestion made by Peggie.

Thanks, FFF
