Hello All,

Would like to see if we can get a TollyCraft Forum under the builders section.

Do you know about the Tollycraft Club?

Do you know about the Tollycraft Club?

I do, have used the tollyclub google forums too.

I am hoping we can get our spot with the rest of the great builders on TF

Hi. I am seriously and actively evaluating the purchase of a 1989 Tollycraft 44 based in Florida. I would like to gain access to the "Tollycraft Club" referenced above. Is that a Facebook group, or do I access it via a web brower, or? Thanks!

This the link for the forum.

This is the Tollycraft facebook page.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/tollyclub

Facebook has two more groups that i know of worth looking into also, the first link is specific to the 40, 44 and 45. The second one is Tollycraft Boats.

Good luck on your research.

Thank you so much, SaltyDogg.

Would anyone who owns or has experience with Tollycraft steer me away from selecting that brand generally?

I doubt it. The one I currently own is our first one. They are very well built.

No experience of my own but know and have known many people who own or owned them. Four people right now own 26'ers. One lives aboard and has done for 6+ yrs now. Others have owned 30, 34, 37 and so on.

THe love their boats. Especially the older ones designed with the same general look. Generally they keep them for long times unless they just want a larger boat of a different, more modern design.

Of course you still must do your checking as no boat is proof from a poor owner.

We have '79 tricabin. Very happy with it. While a 'planning' hull it displaces economically at 8.5kn. They're good sea boats, Tollycraft had very high standards for seakeeping.

THe main Tolly forum is on Facebook (unfortunately in my view). There is an active owners club but not surprisingly it centers in the PNW where they were built. So I agree a TF section would be a nice addition.

I agree with SaltyDogg, a forum of our own would be really helpful.

The other Tolly groups mentioned don't offer the interaction and problem solving capabilities that this forum has. Since Tollycraft went away in the mid 90's we are a bit more on our own.

As to my situation I am a runabout owner that moved up to a cruiser with twin diesels and had a lot to learn. Most information is common to every boat and I used the general forums to educate myself, but once in a while a question comes up that only another Tolly owner can answer.

For several years wife and I were members of the Tollycraft Boating Club. For a couple decades there was a really good Tollycraft forum. Hundreds of members. Anything needed to know about a Tolly would be quickly answered by several "old salts" who knew all about Tolly boats. Some members had many years experience working in Tollycraft boat building factory during 60's into 1990's.

One day... the website went blank. Was told it would be returning with all new format and much improved usability. Well... the revampers made a BIG mistake. They erased everything on the site. Couple decades of threads and posts and member stats evaporated - never to be found again. Some of us members went searching the net for some sort of retrieval. I even payed some $$$ to a program forensic specialist I know. But No Luck!

Then, some Tolly owners went on Facebook. I don't do Facebook. Guess there are many still doing Facebook. I came to Trawler Forum.

Would be pretty cool to have specific Tolly sector on TF; I'd participate. However, I'm quite satisfied using TF in its current format.

BTW - IMO - Tollycraft are one heck of a great boat! :speed boat: :thumb:

Thank you for all of the responses. My growing impression is that if I can find a well-maintained Tollycraft from the late 1980s or early 1990s I would be making a sound choice of a well-respected brand.

1970's too!

But, be cautious regarding all years and models. There were/are items to checkout. As Tollycraft proceeded to build boats over the decades there were a couple of design/build-out foibles that occurred. Most situations have probably been addressed and corrected by previous owners.

As with any top tier boat builder these items were not deeply severe and each can be relatively easily dealt with. However, it's always nice to be cued in for what to look for before inspecting any boat.

My suggestion is to post about any Tolly you get interested in [photos, year, model, power train etc.]. And, ask any questions you have. It's likely some Tolly owner [or more than one] will post back for you.

Good Luck! :speed boat: Art

Thank you so much, Art. Very helpful.

As a follow-on, my search has narrowed to a used 40 to 45 foot twin diesel (Cats or Lehmans preferred, based upon what I have learned thus far), which my wife and I can live aboard for 2 to 4 weeks at a time. We are interested in a Florida-based boat that is capable of safely traveling to the Bahamas and the Caribbean islands. I am hoping to spend $300K or less, which appears "doable" given my focus upon boats from the 80s and 90s.

I have become interested in the following brands - Tollycraft, Grand Banks (although beautiful, I am hesitant about the teak decking), Hatteras, Chris Craft, and Californian.

Based upon my desired usage and criteria listed above, would anyone steer me away from any of these brands?

I feel all those brands are good. Each has some years and models better than their others Teak decks can cost a fortune in several ways - be careful on purchase of teak decks! About the most important item on a good brand of used boat is how well was it maintained by previous owners?? Boats are costly... no matter how you look at it.

+1 for a Tollycraft specific folder on this site. I know there are Facebook groups, but I’m not and won’t be on that site.

There is now a TollyCraft section in the Builders Forum. Threads that are relevant will moved to that section over the next few days. Spread the word. :)

Go Tolly... GO!!

Thank you very much Larry, I appreciate all the hard work the TF Site Team puts in here.

Thank you LarryM.

Your response is why we prefer the forum here verses on a facebook page or other social media.

I moved a few more Tolly related threads to the new Tolly forum.
If anyone spots a thread that warrants moving to the Tolly specific section (vs the specific power, electronic, etc sections) just report the thread using the Triangle w ! mark and explain - a Mod will review and decide and move appropriate ones.

Tollycraft noob

I''ve got a Tolly 61' with 8v92TI & love it! Interested in any information.
Best part about the boat, I was scared of fuel costs, but if I want hull speed, I can get 10kts for 10gph.
...or I can go twice as fast! (but $$$).

Have been out in some medium conditions, boat does not care. What a beast.
