Water Separating fuel filter: Racor 120R-Rac-01

Currently I only have the fuel filter inside the 20 HP Mercury outboard. I have been getting water in the carburetor on and off, and I am thinking of installing a Water Separating fuel filter: Racor 120R-Rac-01, on the fuel line before the outboard:

Is this the correct approach?

Inspect your fuel line especially the fuel pump bulb for cracks or holes. The most common source for water in an out board engine is deterioration of the fuel line.
