Milkraft 60 converted timber prawn trawler
I know many are interchangeable
The 20si our 855 Cummins had is the same as the cat one
Example below

I have found a 197-8820 24v 95 amp alt for sale at a to good to pass up price
Cat badged, unused off a new machine that went for larger amp variant.
Same J180 mount as the 20si
Appears to be single wire
But is it suitable?

Can't find much info about them online
Cat aren't giving much away

What's the maximum RPM of the engine it came off of and yours? You're probably over thinking this. My biggest concern would be to make sure the fan turns in the proper direction to cool the alternator. Worst case, you may half to go to a bigger or smaller pulley to increase or reduce the RPM.

With them the same alternator except for age the alternator won't care which engine it is mounted on. If the output is what you want use it.
The only things to look at are as OC DIver said,

--the fans may be right or left so use the fan from the other alternator if the fins don't look the same. If the fins are tilted in the same direction then it does not matter.

-- the engine rotational speed. If they are the same then the alternator should do just fine. If one engine operates at a higher or lower rpm RANGE then the alternator drive pulley may need to be changed to keep the alternator rpm within its maximum rpm range.

Thanks for the replies
Fan rotation is same
Seems a cat 3456 is the engine going on that cat website above
6 cyl 450hp 1800 rpm so should be fine.
