No idea who this little girl is but she is great. Good song and a fun video.

Anna Kendrick is a well known actress seen in such movies as the 'Pitch Perfect's, the 'Twilight' series,
'Up in the Air', and dozens more. :)

Like this thread a lot for both the nostalgia and the new (to me) music. In the former category:

Thanks! I’m not as hip as you. I’ll have to look for her.

I posted the audio-only version of this previously. The video just became available. These guys really nail it.

French singer and film actor Tino Rossi was born April 19, 1907 in Ajaccio, on the French-ruled island of Corsica. He was nicknamed the "Napoleon of records" (He is said to be the second-most famous person to come from Corsica after Napoleon), the "Nightingale of the century" or "Emperor of romance". Mr. Rossi who recorded 2,000 songs, was the best seller of French records of all time with 400 million records sold, one of the best selling artists of all time.

Gifted with a voice well suited for opera, as a young man he left Corsica for Marseille where he made his first record in 1933 then achieved enormous success. The next year he went to Paris and began performing at the Casino de Paris. In 1938, Mr. Rossi toured the United States after his ''Vieni, Vieni'' stayed at the top of the American record charts for 28 weeks.

In 1955 he starred in the operetta Méditerranée, and in the following years he continued performing around France and the world. At the age of 75 Rossi gave a three-month-long stint of farewell concerts in Paris. He was inducted into the French Legion of Honor in 1982 by President Francois Mitterrand. He died September 26, 1983 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Hauts-de-Seine, Paris.

The front cover of one of his vinyl disk shows a Grand Banks 36' anchored in a calanque of Corsica, one of my favourite islands.

Greetings,
NEVER would have thought of this pairing!

That was amazing! The stoner and the lounge lizard trying to one-up each other. But damn, could they bring it!

He had quite the career, Pilou. Had to look up Vieni Vieni. Thought I’d heard it before and it turns out it was the song playing in the background in “It’s a Wonderful Life” while George is praying in Martini’s bar.

The things we are learning on Trawler Forum!

Thank you Ian for the great information!

Also how delighting to see James Steward ! Two years after this great movie It's a Wonderful Life, Stewart began his first of 4 movies with Alfred Hitchcock. I trust that you have seen Vertigo, I can’t count how many times I did. Years ago I went to Mission San Juan Bautista, San Benito county, CA, between Salinas and Gilroy, were the last scene of Vertigo was filmed.

PS : The mission is located atop an escarpment of the great rift of the San Andreas Fault where the earth actually dropped several feet just beyond the North East fence of the mission which led people I met there to say that the monks of the mission are slowly ascending to the sky and heaven :).
It’s one of the best place to see the San Andreas Fault.

PS (2) : Right after WWII, James Steward, colonel of US Air Force at that time, received the French War Cross with 7 stars, an exceptional military distinction, in recognition of his outstanding and heroic service during the war.

RTF`s "Martha and the Vandellas" reminds me of the band Reg Livermore dreamed up for the "Betty Blockbuster Follies" musical he wrote, called "Baxter Funt and The Reginas"

Those who spent formative years in the Carolinas know "southern beach music". It's not Beach Boys. Its music to dance a dance called The Shag, which is a sort of jitterbug thing.

I still love this stuff.

An odd track from Alan Price " Simon Smith and the Amazing Dancing Bear".
Alan Price used to gig with Georgie Fame("Fame & Price") who was 10x the musician, but it`s still a cute track.
Leaving aside thorny issues around possessing and exhibiting a dancing bear, the song recently spawned a band here called "Boy and Bear"

When looks deceive.

If you hadn’t heard these guys before, you might not bother to hit the play button. A most ambitious song from a couple of improbable-looking musicians.

Josh Turner, he’s great. Look at post 1181 and 1183 for a couple more of his songs. He often works with other young folks who appreciate good music. Oh wait, you did 1181.

Here he is with Allison Young doing Crazy. If you don’t fall in love with Allison Young, there is something wrong with you.

Here`s another Michael McDonald/Doobies track people might like:

No argument there, Parks.

I’m fascinated with this kid. A multi-instrumental prodigy, seemingly fearless about what he takes on. And he sings!

And here’s a somewhat recent live performance, Bruce. Not too shabby for a bunch of old guys.

Thanks Ian. It has to come from loving what you do, making music.
Michael MacDonald was with Steeley Dan many years ago, though I think he still collaborated with them.

That was fun. One good sea shanty deserves another. This is Josh Tucker and his long-time collaborator, Carson, in high school, doing their book report. (It helps if you’ve read “In the Heart of the Sea.”)

Not a fav, but Lloyd Price passed yesterday. Worth noting. 50s stuff - Lawdy Miss Clawdy, Ain’t It a Shame, Stagger Lee, Just Because. last of the line of the old New Orleans R&B guys - Fats Domino, Dave Davenport .....

That didn't come out right - one of my favorites, but I posted on account of his death. Or something.

Another wunderkid. She didn’t shave her head; she has alopecia and lost her hair when she was three.
