You have adware on your iPad. You may go to Chrome and block pop-ups but I doubt that will help. You need a malware program and to remove it. Now, you ask how it got there? Likely you installed an app from a location other than Apple's App Store although I'm not familiar with that being possible for the Yacht World app. I don't know, but you have just a classic case of Adware. The problem is on your iPad at this point, so you must get it removed.

I sort of lumped adware, but browser hijacker's specifically are on both Safari and Chrome and every other browser known. Again a problem on the computer in question, not the web site.

May well have to do with something specific you do on Yacht World. For instance, perhaps video or scrolling through photos or some specific extensions. If you're using the app, it could be within it. Now some said they were having the issue using browser and not the app so isn't 100%. Could have been initially attached to the app though if you ever downloaded it. Someone hacks and attaches to the app, you guys all download, anytime you're on YW, then it activates.

It would take someone going through your computer to figure it out and still might delete it and still not figure out how it got there. Finding it to delete it is the real challenge. I would still send all the information to YW. Something tells me they've had complaints and they may have figured out the cause.

BandB, you may have hit it on the head. While I have never loaded any aps except from the ap store, I went to the ap store and searched adware. Found a free ap called Clearly. Loaded it and just went to Yachtworld and looked at 6 boat photos without any problems. So far looks good. Thanks for the info.

Admittedly, I prefer Windows and Android to Apple so freely admit my bias. However, setting that aside a moment, I think Apple does their customers a bit of a disservice as they try to maintain an illusion of them not being subject to all the same issues as anyone else. Therefore, I think their customers may not be as diligent in avoidance and protection sometimes. There's an illusion that Apple has it all taken care of. Well, in today's world they're a target like everyone else. In fact, as their market share increased they became more of a target and as they initially led the way on tablets and smartphones, that's where the troublemakers concentrated too. This is not a criticism of them but simply a statement that many Apple users aren't as knowledgeable about adware and malware and browser hijacking.

I wish I was more up to speed on things and, especially iThings, and knew where this all originated and how it's worked. This specific ad does exist on other hardware, operating systems, and browsers, but here and on YW, we have a heavily skewed iPeople issue.

I have a new I-Phone 8. I’ve got no aps and havent been to the ap store or I-tunes or much of anywhere else but have been getting the Yachtworld pop-ups since the first visit to YW, the first day. That’s not to say I didn’t pick something up somewhere, but the first day consisted of answering and calling on the phone, text messages, visiting this site, Life Aboard Forum and Yachtworld. This for your info.

I had huge problems with video ads on YW that would play over and over, and would reorient the screen to the bottom so the banner was in view, and whatever you were looking at was out of view. It would do it 10 in a row in quick succession. It was happening all the time till a couple months ago. Super annoying. I am using a mac. I think whoever is setting up their advertising, is not competent in mac and iOS devices.

That could be very true, that they're not doing adequate testing on iProducts. I've seen that kind of thing many times in the past. Our web department had phones and tablets of dozens of brands and using many more browsers for no purpose other than just to test. We don't use any iProducts in our office but we're definitely aware many of our users do. One we test for that most people don't realize is still even being used is Blackberry. Firefox market share is way down but we still test for it. I also see no link on YW's site to get you to their "Webmaster" so your complaints are ending up with people who have zero technical knowledge.

I did try one time last night to duplicate what you're seeing on iPads and was unable to but it was on a barely used iPad, so will try again. Actually going to the office today, so might give my IT manager a challenge. She'll enjoy it.

Here is a link to Apple's instructions regarding adware on Safari. Chrome has pop-up blockers as well.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987

Adware on iProducts has increased dramatically in the past three years.

I geeked for a couple of hours on Yachtworld last night on my iPad (advanced search Motorsailer) in the guise of replicating the fault to no avail. However, I do want to buy a Hans Christian or Fisher now.

I started a similar thread here about a month ago.

The browser hijack is new since Dominion Marine sold out to someone new, it occurs on some listings and not others. It affects all operating systems (Here I have Windows 10, Windows 7, Mac OS High Sierra, Ubuntu Desktop 16.04, iOS on Iphone 6 and Ipad Air - as I run a software development company).

My guess is that some new "feature" allows brokers to place HTML/JS in their listings and some of these brokers are hacked.

The photo viewer JS on iOS has ALWAYS sucked, and hangs up easily.

I haven't had this happen for several weeks but I haven't been looking at boats as much as usual.

Sea Moose: Thanks for posting that. Hopefully Yachtworld will pay attention. Tucker, Yalchtbrokerguy forwarded this thread link to them. It also makes me feel a little better that the issue seems to be with YW not with my os.
