New thruster (8" tube)

Looking to replace my Keypower KP08E 5hp 12v thruster for an 8" tube. Any recommendations for the most power thruster that can fit an 8" tube? Is it possible to have a 24v thruster with dedicated battery (that charges from alternator) even though my boat is set up for 12v?

Yes. I have a 24v thruster with its own battery - two 12v starting batteries in series - that is independent of the 12v ship system and charged with a dedicated 12v to 24v charger that charges from the house bank. It's not terribly hard to set up. All 12v charging goes to the house bank and then out to thruster and starting banks through dc-dc chargers.
