Interesting boats

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I think because of the type of boat that it is comparable to.

Some Malahides and Romsdals had twin diesels with one shaft.

Some Romsdals had Detroits with belt drives, IIRC.

Greetings,
Mr. b. Here's one: https://www.djurgardsvarvet.se/en/ships-en/shipid/920/rescue-vessels_3_dan-brostrom. Many more but I haven't the time to look...

Many Navy ships have 2 engines, a reduction gear and one shaft.
No big deal.

Was this statement necessary?

"She is powered by twin Volvo diesels each turning there own props"

Yes, many of the old Romsdals and Malahides had twin Volvos that were connected to a single prop.

OK just another example how I always learn seomthing new on this site. Comment withdrawn.

Oliver Hazard Perry class FFG's. Two gas turbines, single shaft and a variable pitch propellor.

Write-up say it was re-powered 40 yrs ago.
Glad someone reads the advert properly, if not me!. Many Halvorsens came with Chrysler gas engines OEM. i recall chartering one and having my nose down the ER sniffing carefully, easily flooded but needed choke to start. I don`t recall one blowing up so Halvorsen, which operated as a both builder and charterer, maintained them well in charter. Their old charter base operates as a large marina, well located in a National Park,we might get a berth there yet.

Not exactly a boat but interesting. Largest true sailing ship since the Preussen.

Eilco Kasemier, arsitect Dick Koopmans, sails with motor yacht from east to west around the world. In less than 200 days and that's a record in a 39 foot motorboat that still hasn't been matched. 1883/1984.
Here the ship;

Very cool boat. I wonder what mechanicals were renewed or replaced. I like the boat but looking for less than 3800 hours on the engine. To bad they did not replace or rebuild this. Yes I know they can go much longer.

Tunnel drives never were popular. I wonder why

Any links to get more information?

If you search for the name of the ship, Bylgia, architect Koopmans, you will find similar ships.
Little can be found about the ship itself, which has sailed around the world.
An extensive newspaper clipping, but that is in Dutch.
It is a ship built in aluminum

Pretty good clip, around the world in 199 days, part of it solo.

lets not forget it was 1983/84 too.

Much easier to do it today.

Jeff Bezos' new yacht

My NY Times subscription allows me to "gift" articles on social media.

Anyone here on TF should be able to read this article for free (no paywall).

From the article:

"Koru will be trailed by Abeona,a 246-foot support vessel. Superyachts often have support vessels following along behind them. These “shadows,” as they are colloquially known, are for the “toys” — the ATVs, supercars, seaplanes, motorcycles, smaller boats, scuba gear, personal submarines and even helicopters that pleasure boaters might bring on a trip."

There is one more photo of the 417-foot vessel in the article.

Cheers,
Mrs. Trombley
