Interesting boats

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.

K&M is one of my all time favorite builders. The besteavers are all most remarkable boats. Many of them have hydraulic lifting keels which give you the best sailing polar and the good features of a centerboard.
It’s a shame I’ve never seen power come out of that yard and don’t know if they do power and sail like Kanter and others do. I do know every one of their boats I’ve seen are just awe inspiring.

About the stern. There’s a huge controversy in the blue water crowd as to have to achieve a balanced hull. The racers have pretty much all gone the way of the slice of pizza hull. Even without foils these boats are often on plane. Whereas many serious bluewater cruisers still want a truly balanced hull with nearly matched ends. For the racers they note less wetted surface and the waterline plane at a heeled angle that is balanced. The cruisers note the helm remains neutral regardless of changing angles of heel and when surfing. Also more likely not to broach if due to inattention or AP malfunction less likely to broach. The boat vid posted shows a hull that’s based on the current evolution of cruiser not racer thinking. They want a boat that takes care of you not a boat you take care of.

I know nothing about these boats but the raised fore deck is super strong and adds interior space ...Lots of interior room for the LOA... I like it....Website can't be reached,error...

What engine? I didn't see any specs on what power it uses...

Some specs but not on motor or power options that I saw. Can request more info by signing-in at page bottom...

1x Yanmar 4LV250, 250 hp

there was a test review of a model with a twin Yanmar 4LV250 engine installation recently in a boating magazin, in German though

similar concepts were tested in Europe before, see links in #9691

That's more like a West Greenland style sea kayak hull...sleek & fast!

Looking at design, one would think a less than 20 HP but more than 10HP OB in a well would sure free up some valuable space.

Woolf you did me no service. Now I need to rob a bank. Wow. A Artnautica dripping with class. In some way it reminds me of a Hand modernized in appearance. Beautiful.

Sorry, too late to edit :)

I discussed building a SY with KMY some years ago, have been on a number of their yachts, and would be happy to build a world cruising SY with them anytime.

Their MY is labelled by the NA as an "explorer" which is a bit of a stretch. Certainly a capable coastal cruiser, with internal volume comparable to a similar length SY - but I have not seen one personally.

Advertised with 1 x 250hp, 2 x 250hp (the magazine reviewed boat) and 2 x 440hp engine options. I would certainly want to investigate the engine room situation further, if I were in that market today, as it is not clear (to me) from the plans, how much space is actually available for and around the engines.

Oh the Bestever,
That boat was a market entering design about 12 yrs ago. Not in Aluminum though.

Seems to me the old/original ? Was the same but it was black and top the side windows on the aft cabin was in a shallow arch shape.

Looked in my old PM mags but couldn’t find info. Would be easy to spot too in black w that profile and lots of brightwork topsides. I think it was called the Atlantic ____ something?

Here is the boat I was thinking of.

Sterling Atlantic 43
43 X 13 X. 3. 21,000lbs 12-15 knots.
Looks like a single Cummins engine.
Can be seen in the Feb. 06 PM magazine.

Eric,

the Sterling Atlantic is designed by an acquaintance. He and his wife cruised one of these all along the eastern ICW with I think a trip to the bahamas thrown in.
they then trucked it to Seattle as he was offered a job at Delta Marine and they wanted to cruise the PNW as well.

We met them a few times over the past few years both in CA and the San Juans.

This shot was in Pirates Cove right as a thunderstorm was blowing thru

Sterling Atlantic 43

A beautiful, unique and classy Cruiser,
It was in the PM mag in 06 catching my eye easily.
The article gives a lot if history and details but make and hp of the engine is omitted. And to add to interest the article was written by Steve D’Antonio. Figure that gear head that he is ... or is it was.

Here are some more pics from the article.
What a shame. All that space, lifting rigging and no dinghy.
