Hello ,

This wed my wife and I are having a second look at a a 2007 Mainship 34. We have a mechanic attending to look at the Cummins engine & the genset.

If that goes well we will also have a survey done.

Is there any recommendations on what my wife and I could be checking ourselves . We plan to check all the electronics , lights, fridge oven etc

Thx
Byron

One of the more expensive things that can go wrong with a boat is wet core in the decks. I always take a phenolic hammer and tap out the decks looking for bad or wet core. It is very easy since good deck will ring a sharp sound and wet or bad core will be more of a dull thud. With the phenolic hammer you won’t hurt the deck. It will give you a good idea if the decks are good or not. Then you will have a better idea if you want to go to survey or not.
