Seattle, new to trawling, excited to learn all the diesel things

Great post! I would add another thing for cruising out here in Puget Sound/Salish sea and that is to have a VHF radio in good working order and monitor at least ch 16/13 and maybe even 14 for vessel traffic information. It can get busy in the summer with recreational and commercial traffic and...

    Anchoring again

We also use a Forfjord with 3/8" G4 chain in the PNW. Our bow configuration limits the anchor types we can carry. Our 65' boat came with a #12 and we upgraded to the #18 which their site lists as 210 lbs. We did drag a couple times in storms with the #12 (150 lbs) but both times scope was under...

    New Member in Seattle WA

Welcome aboard! Given what you posted above I would recommend that you get a broker. This is the exact reason they exist and can really help you through the whole buying process. There are several Seattle-based folks here that I'm sure can recommend some good brokers for you! Good Luck -tozz

    Coronial Inquiry-Sinking of Eliza 1

We had a stability test performed down in Tacoma during the process of designing a hard top. It was a lot more straight foward that I suspected it would be. Few guys first getting weighed, then standing in various positions around the boat while architect takes measurements with a fancy level...

    Customs check in

Yes. For example, Canada states: ---snip--- If you enter Canadian waters, you are not required to present yourself and report your goods to the CBSA if you: do not land on Canadian soil and do not anchor, moor or make contact with another conveyance while in Canadian waters do not embark or...

    Furuno and Timezero Pro

Yes for kb and mouse. As for form factor, that's personal preference. We replaced a tower PC with the NUC. It came with a mounting plate so it can be wall mounted and secured. I mounted it to the underside of a shelf in a cabinet up in our pilothouse. -tozz

    Furuno and Timezero Pro

We had a 'marine' anti-glare monitor fail and in searching for a replacement the marine monitors were pretty expensive. After talking to a couple of folks including Steve Mitchell (seabits.com), we went with a Beetronics monitor (www.beetronics.com) for a replacement. I flush mounted it right...

    Anchoring Technique - Three Questions

ah, yes, that is interesting. So if i look at the graph and extrapolate out a bit you are saying that you would get the equivalent effect at 7:1 at 20' that you would at .... about 4:1 at 50' and looks about 3:1 at 100'? -tozz

Would you go with 3 feet of clearance?

Decent lake level info at the USACE site for example: https://www.nwd-wc.usace.army.mil/nws/hh/www/index.html# regards -tozz

    Aere Heavy Duty Inflatable Fenders?

We have had them for 5 years and they are the real deal. Light and sturdy as advertised. We have multiple 12"x29" fenders along each side and two 2' round for forward sections of the boat. Only slight complaint we have is that they can pop up on the dock rather than roll along a dock like...
