Check out my thread "Californian rub rail insert replacement". I replaced the insert using materials from Home Depot or Lowes in 2012. It is still in place and looks decent. If it were to get hit very hard it would damage but replacement materials would only be around 10 dollars. Completed the insert all around the boat for around $100.00
I found a 10 ft. piece stored behind the starboard bench on the fly bridge. It is solid black rubber and my boat is a 1986, 48 MY. There is no SS strip on the face of it. I have no idea who made it and there are no markings on it.
Thanks, CQ, but that's 1977 original gelcoat. In real life, it's anything but shiny. I have given up shining this boat....it's a lot of work and money and it's over rated, IMO!
Must have been trick photography to make it look shiny. I think Giggitoni took those pics as he was driving by the yard.
I've used Taco Marine products and they are very high quality. They don't deal direct but if you call them they'll give you the name of a dealer in your area.
