Balmar 60 Alternator replacement for a Perkins 6.354

Hi all, As part of my engine rewiring project I am replacing my old alternators with new Balmar 60 - 100amp - Single V alternators. I plan on having one go to the house bank through my Lynx Distributor. The other will go to a Victron Argofet where it will charge both my starter batteries. I...

    Perkin 6.354 Stop Button Wiring

Hi there, Does anyone know if the stop solenoid is wired to positive directly, and then the negative run goes through the stop button (thus, when the stop button is pushed, it completes the circuit and pulls the solenoid - thus shutting of the fue)? OR Does the solenoid get energized to pull...

Perkins 6.354 - What sensor is this?

That might make sense. Besides the gauges, I have a panel with 3 warning lights (Water Temp, Engine Oil Temp, and Engine Oil Pressure). I am thinking that if 1 is the water temp sender, then 3 might be for the Water Temp warning light.

Perkins 6.354 - What sensor is this?

So am working to identify the sensors on my Perkins 6.354. I believe #1 is the Water Temp Sensor I believe #2 is the RPM sender I believe # 4 is the Stop relay I haven't been able to figure out what #3 is. Any ideas? Thanks, Chris

Dual Station Wiring Diagram - Perkins 6.354

As seems to be my pattern, I rushed into something without thinking it totally through. I was doing a major rewiring project on my boat and decided (in the spur of the moment) to replace the old wiring harnesses from the engines. Fast forward, I finished the major wiring project in the boat...

    Hydraulic Steering Install

Hi there all! I have been browsing the threads looking for information on hydraulic steering. In my renovations I have pulled out all the old hydraulics as part of my engine room revamp. I am now ready to look at rerunning the hydraulic lines and installing new hydraulic heads and piston. I...

    New plumbing install

I did a bunch of research. We are live a boards and primarily at dock. I decided on the Scala 2 (the 115V version). I do have a very good (new) Multiplus inverter that I can use to run the pump while away from dock. I have read reviews and other posts on this forum where other members have...

    New plumbing install

Hi all, I am replumbing my CHB 42' trawler. I am going to use a Grundfos Scala 2 AC pump and pex with a manifold. I am attaching a diagram. I am considering not having a shore water line hook-up. I am not sure about the water arrestor...if one should be installed and if it is installed...

    Marine Carpenter on Vancouver Island?

Hi all, I am looking for someone to do some work on my original CHB teak galley area. I am putting in a bigger fridge and need to move a support and change the size of a drawer and cabinet. Is there anyone on Vancouver Island (ideally close to Sidney) that does this sort of carpentry/cabinet...

Aqualarm 20343 Smart Bilge Monitor with a Ultra Jr. Pump Switch

Hi Steve, Unfortunately not. It is not the Ultra switch that is confusing...it is the Aqualarm panel wiring. Chris

Aqualarm 20343 Smart Bilge Monitor with a Ultra Jr. Pump Switch

Hi all, Does anyone have any experience with connecting an Ultra Jr. Pump Switch to an Aqualarm 20343 Smart Bilge Monitor. The wiring instructions on the Ultra Jr. seem pretty straight forward and I am left with 3 wires to go to the switch panel (black (negative) - I took right to my negative...

Sanity Check - calculating DC circuit lengths

Thank you. I feel better with just a sanity check! The points about voltage drop is well taken and I will recheck my calculations.

Sanity Check - calculating DC circuit lengths

Hi all, I just need some reassurance that I haven't made an error in my thought process. When calculating DC cable length to put into a sizing calculator, it is the total length. However, should it be broken down by segments. Example: From the breaker panel to a fuse block: - 100 amp...

    C20 Battery Capacity Tester

Hi all, Just wondering if there are some good tool suggestions to check the status of house banks and starter banks (realizing that they likely have different testing approaches). Anything reasonable on amazon or somewhere that would provide some good info on the health of my batteries? Chris

Crossing AC and DC wire runs

Hi all, I understand that AC wiring and DC wiring shouldn’t be in the Sam conduit. However there doesn’t seem to be any way to avoid them being close together at pinch points and where they need to cross over each other. In my picture the terminal strips hold the circuits for AC. On the right...

    AC outlet termination

It’s like a compression plate that holds the wire. I tried to take the screw out and it doesn’t easily come out. When you take it out you can’t get it back in. My thought is that this is t wire around a screw, but rather under a compression plate. The little black plastic piece doesn’t...

    AC outlet termination

Hi all, I have been lead to believe that wire terminated at AC outlets should use crimp on round connectors. However, the outlets that I want to use (with integral usb chargers and the gfci ones) are not engineered to accept ring terminals (or fork terminals). They just won’t work due to...
