    screw mounting in cored deck

An interesting characteristic of Six 10 is that it becomes thinner in shear as it is worked or dispensed through the mixing tube but begins to thicken as it is no longer worked. So you can tool a fillet smoothly, but it will not sag if applied horizontally.

    screw mounting in cored deck

"The Six10 Epoxy formulation is a good balance between the elongation and toughness of G/flex® and the strength and stiffness of our 105 Resin-based epoxies"......From the West Systems website

    screw mounting in cored deck

Very timely thread for me as I just mounted dinghy chocks and tie downs on the foredeck of my boat. I was only able to through-bolt the bow tie-down (through the windlass mounting pad). Through bolting was not practical in the other locations. I used the West System method of bonding...

    CASH???

Look at it from the broker's standpoint: that type of business is not set up for cash transactions. They don't have adequate security measures and are assuming a lot of liability for accepting $200,000 in cash (just a guess) and then transporting that cash to a bank for deposit. You'd be...

Day / overnight cruiser - what should I be looking at?

If the boat has electronic engine controls and an autopilot, adding a second set of shifters and a jog stick is not a terrible project. If it's a twin-engine boat, you really only need the engine controls/shifters for docking.

Day / overnight cruiser - what should I be looking at?

I stand corrected about the Zimmerman. What's your aversion to cockpit controls? I've found them most helpful when docking or single-handing.

Day / overnight cruiser - what should I be looking at?

I've spent a fair amount of time on a Zimmerman 36. No side door.

    Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed

This incident does make me wonder if we've reached a practical limit of size for the container ships. And the DALI is not in the largest class of ships. At some point, the reduction of marginal costs due to shipping is outweighed by the dredging and harbor rework needed to handle those vessels.

    ICW & Waterway Distances

The printed Waterway Guide has a distance table. I highly recommend buying a current edition. Indispensable for cruising the ICW.

    SS bolts in aluminum

Good luck. I tried to remove 1/4" bolts stainless bolts (actually socket head cap screws) from an aluminum kayak mount. After breaking a couple while working on the boat, I moved to my company workshop, with a torch, a vise, lots of patience and penetrating fluid. I had success on the...

    That's a great idea.

    Grounding Video

I'm not digging all of the harsh judgement. The guy states clearly in his early videos that he has waited many years to start seriously cruising. He's in his early/mid-60's. At that age, he has a limited amount of time to acquire experience. At some point, you've got to jump in the game and...

    Interesting boats

RE the Med Yacht 62- you don't see many boats with a full blown rolling tool chest in the engine room. Nice.

84 months of costs to live/use the boat

For what it's worth, owning a home is not a path to wealth in all communities. My hometown had a 10-year period of stagnant home values in the mid-2000's. And my house has a carrying cost of 2% (taxes, insurance, yard maintenance) plus another 2% average in maintenance and repairs. I look...

    Thrusters Not needed??

I arrived at Fort Pierce last summer with one operating engine and bow and stern thrusters. Waited on slack tide; I had been there on a friend's boat and witnessed the current for myself. Not going to take a chance with only one engine. Maneuvering to the slip, I lost most of the stern...

    Water Hose from Dock

Another vote from Zero G. But some of them use aluminum fittings, which will gall and seize on brass hose bibs. I had to cut one off of the hose bib at my house.

Used oil to power our diesel boats

It's illegal to add used oil to highway fuel in some states. We were audited by the state of North Carolina many years ago; the auditor wanted to make sure we weren't diluting the highway fuel in our service trucks with used motor oil, thereby avoiding some percentage of the fuel tax on...

    Collision and demasting

We were running in the mouth of the Neuse River in NC one night in a center console. I was running the boat and my buddy was watching our radar screen and periodically looking around. We got within 100 yards or so of a Navy or Marine vessel that was "running dark". It was one of the small...

    Thrusters Not needed??

I read this a lot, and it can be a handy technique within reason, but some marinas prohibit placing the engines in gear while tied to the dock. That's understandable given the number of high horsepower boats these days that make five knots at idle speed.

What are your boating goals of 2024 ?

My father said he spent the first two-thirds making money and the last third trying to keep it (legally) away from the government.

What are your boating goals of 2024 ?

There are some ambitious itineraries in this group. Mine are much more humble. Take the boat to the Chesapeake and eventually Baltimore (where number one son lives) for the summer. At least one weekend trip to Alexandria and DC while the boat is up there. Before that, I need to complete my...

Wow. The covered boat house is the key to owning that vessel.

    Interesting boats

Not scared of the v-drives, as I've owned a boat outfitted with such. But the boat in question looks as though access to the sides of the engines is extremely limited. Lots of standing on your head for routine service.

    Unicorn Boat?

Congrats! We closed on our 48 Maritimo in June. Had a great shakedown cruise running her from the west coast of Florida back to North Carolina.
