How often do ocean going freighters and tankers hauled for a bottom job. They often spend weeks at anchor or in ports. I suspect it is rare that they are hauled. So how do they avoid fouling?

My first "real" job, 1973 summer between high school and college, was as an electricians helper at Baltimore Dry Dock and Shipbuilding. As low guy on the totem pole one of my jobs was to crawl through the cofferdams down into the bottom of the bilge of big tankers. When down there they would pass me a heated wax type of liquid which I would pour into an electrical box attached to the bottom of the hull. I was told it was to keep it waterproof and that the box put out a small electrical charge to the hull to keep marine growth at bay. I cannot begin to tell you how dirty a job this was, crawling through rust and oil/grease for what seemed like a quarter mile down into the bilge.
