It took me a while to figure this one out, so thought that I would share it. I have some 1-inch nylon strap (the kind used to hold the bimini top down on small power boats) and needed to put it through a connection and then fasten it permanently to itself. Tried rivets, but the cloth is too soft to hold. Thought about a sewing machine, but that is a big hassle. Finally came up with the bright idea (I thought it was bright, anyway) of using a pencil soldering iron to burn a hole through the two pieces to be fastened to each other (it melts right through that nylon) and then use some Chicago bolts from Ace Hardware (65-cents a pair). Works like a charm. So thought I would pass it on. You have to have a pencil soldering iron, of course, but IMHO every boat should have one for emergency use.
