If one equates our interstate system with known migratory paths for birds,.... not to reduce the importance of your statement, may I point out, cars and trucks are "ugly horrible" people killers too?

Yea, one would think people were smarter than birds.

I can remember when approx 300 people were killed in auto accidents, during a holiday weekend.

One interesting finding:

But seriously, I think the issue has become too politicized. With other technologies, we don't go searching for reasons/excuses not to build them. Tall buildings kill birds. Power lines are ugly. Power plants are, well, power plants. Fossil fuel is messy to obtain, transport and refine. None of this is good.

But until I'm ready to do my share to reduce Earth's human population, I'm willing to accept that we need power. Wind power is a viable part of the mix. I'll figure out how to avoid hitting the turbines, thank you. There must be something else more important that we can complain about.

I believe the newer ones spin far slower so bird kill is greatly reduced.

I ran Audabon bird counters out to proposed windmill farm sites and they were usually bored stiff at the lack of birds to count.

As for eyesores....mostly bumps on the horizon difficult to see...and you hear the same complaint about solar fields and power plants.

There was great concern when oil rigs were first put in the Gulf, etc.
I dont think there has been one collision between a boat and an oil rig.
I dont think the seagulls and migrating bird object either. Turns out, the rigs provide a nice rest stop plus it turns out fish population under and around oil rigs is very good too.

Some tenured professor will get a nice grant, publish an 80 page report concluding "The results indicate a need for additional studies"

When we first built the Hope Creek Generating Station cooling tower, the State of NJ made us perform a daily “mortified bird watch “. Not kidding. After a year and not a single bird strike we asked if we could stop. Nope. Well can we do something else? Sure. You can move it! Ha!
After two years we were allowed to go weekly. After three years and no birds we could finally stop.
PS I retired 28 years after the tower was built and in that time we never found a single bird strike.
