• Trawler Forum Classified Posting Guidelines
    • We expect ads placed to be related to the topic of this forum.
    • Ads that are inactive for 180 days or longer may be moved to the Classified Archive and locked. Ads may be relisted if the item is still current. Alternatively, owners may contact a Moderator to reinstate an archived ad.
    • The Classified section is for advertising, members are asked to refrain from posting discussions to a Classified Ad. Please start a discussion thread or PM the owner for discussions.
    • Do not hijack another member's ad by posting unsolicited commentary. Example: if a member has posted an ad offering an anchor for sale, don't add a post to his thread stating that you have an anchor you'd like to get rid of also. Posts deemed as unsolicited commentary may be removed.
    • For your own security, do NOT include your e-mail or phone number in your ad. Instead request that interested parties contact you via PM (private message) to provide owners contact info.
    • Brokers, Dealers, or those with a commercial interest in a sale are prohibited from posting in Classifieds.
    • Only Trawler Forum Commercial Members may post ads in the Commercial section. You must be a designated Commercial Member to start threads in this section of the forum. (Contact a moderator if you have questions about this)
    • Don't post links to commercial sites where you are also offering the boat, such as eBay, Craigslist or Yachtworld, etc. unless it contains a more in-depth description, additional information or pictures.
    • Place only one ad per item (you may repost only when your ad has expired and been removed).
    For Sale ads MUST include:
    • Asking price
    • Location
    • A Basic Description
    • Clear statement whether you are the owner or non-owner (posting for friend, relative, or acquaintance)

All ads should also include ALL the following:
    • Pertinent maintenance and condition information
    • Exterior picture or pictures
    • Interior picture or pictures (boats)
For maximum impact & exposure, it is suggested the Ad Title include: Year, Manufacturer, Model, Length, Price, and Location or at the very top of the ad body. When your item has sold or the ad is no longer relevant: Please post a Reply to the ad that the item is SOLD or click "Report Post" on post 1 of the thread to ask a moderator to archive the ad. • Avoid Scams.

Our classifieds are free and anyone registered here is welcome to post an ad.
Be aware that there are unscrupulous folks out there. Avoid any interaction that seems odd to you or feels wrong. Inquiries from unknown buyers, buyers agents and other non-traditional approaches should be treated with extreme caution.

Beware of unsolicited contacts offering to put you in touch with someone else who is buying or selling via e-mail or text.

Do not post your e-mail address or phone number in a classifieds ad.

Hints that you may be dealing with a Scammer:
    • Seller or Buyer approaches you via a direct email or PM and then steers you to an off-site communication method (text or email).
    • No posts or very few forum posts.
    • Recent forum membership
    • Insists on conducting negotiations via email or text rather than PM
    • Requires payment via Bank Transfer, BitCoin/CryptoCurrency, WesternUnion or other unsecured method.
    • Buyer or Seller suggests Paypal "Friends and Family" payment. Paypal is a good way to arrange payment but an invoice for goods and services should be used rather than "Friends and Family". "Friends and Family" avoids fees BUT there is no recourse if the transaction runs aground. Friends and Family is for gifts only. There is no protection for Friends and Family transactions, so never ever use it to buy something.
    • Declines to allow viewing the item before proceeding with the transaction.

Looking to purchase Mainship trawler style. 1999 to present on age. Looking for navy hull, 2 heads, 2 berths, washer/dryer. Single w/bow thruster, or twins hopefully with trim tabs. Price negotiable. I am located in VA in the Northern Neck area on the Chesapeake Bay. Anxious to purchase!

Mainship Boat Search

We, too, were anxious to purchase a Mainship. Our preference was a 39 or 40-ft. with a single engine. We found several online, only to discover that the boats were already under contract after being on the market less than 2 weeks. The Mainship market is very hot right now. We let several boats slip through our fingers because we could not react quickly enough. Ultimately, we found a Mainship 400 which had only been listed for 24 hours and we moved quickly. After contacting the broker, we asked for a video walk-through (face-time) of the boat to save us from flying across country during Covid to do a preliminary inspection. This was a very effective method to "see" the state of the boat and a good broker will share his impressions at the same time.
Good luck with your search, stay diligent, and react quickly to view the boat and put a deposit down to hold it for in-person inspection, sea trial, etc.
Don't know if they're still on the market but during our search in Dec. 2020, we saw some nice looking Mainship 43's with navy hulls in Port Charlotte, FL and Old Saybrook, CT. Again, best of luck.

Sage advice

I too have had the experience of not being able to react fast enough. Have thus far missed out on a Mainship and on a Carver that just flew like a fly off the market due to a quick sale. I have now broadened my manufacturer search; the navy hull Mainship's are few and far between. So in addition to the on site camera walk through, I have a private plane on stand by in case I have to rush to a dealer/seller. Thanks for your note and encouragement. Best!

Here is our dilemma, we just bought a Mainship 430, 3 cabin, two head, twin brand new engines, 15K in custom exhaust work, Marquipt davit with dingy. this has been a boat we searched for for 10 years. Then I got an offer for a job was really hard to pass up but involves a lot of travel, sometimes for 10-14 days at a time. No slip fees to pay as we have it behind our house. BUT the Mainship market is hot ( as stated) do I sell or keep?

Ha! Of course only you guys can answer that question. Perhaps the best course of action is to wait and see how your free time plays out. You may enjoy having a weekend boat to look forward to when you return home from those business trips. When I was working, the minute I stepped into the marina, felt the breeze, smelled the tang, heard the tinkling of masts, all thoughts of work went out the window. Being on the water, even if you don't leave port, was the perfect tonic. Knowing you have your "escape vehicle" may also help you get through a bad business day. That said, if you end up not using the boat for months on end, please pass her on to a more attentive owner. There's nothing sadder than a boat sitting unused. Have I waxed poetic enough? You can always do the old coin flip test on sell or don't sell. How do you feel with the result-- relieved or disappointed?
We will be taking our Mainship through Florida in March/April. Good luck with your decision.
