MacBook

I am looking for a used but fairly new Macbook to use for a Furino wireless radar
I will be purchasing in the Spring.

Beggars can't be choosers but I prefer a 15 or 17 inch Macbook pro. I don't want Retina display or the magic bar technology.

Something about 5 years old would be perfect. I would like something for 3 or 4 hundred dollars.

Give me a call

I wont call as I'm in Australia so its not practical to sell you one.

I have 3 x 13" MacBook Pro's that are all 10 years old. One I use as a laptop, the other 2 were for my twin daughters at Uni. They upgraded long ago, but the units basically keep running. I have replaced the battery in one of them. The other one has a weird issue. It boots and runs perfectly with its hard drive sitting outside the case and plugged in via a USB port. But it won't boot with the hard drive installed where it is meant to go. That one I have at home but not using. The other is running boot camp and W10 on the boat and is a secondary nav PC, or radar display.

My point is, don't be too concerned about age of the units. They just keep going.

Given that you are getting a Furuno radar I'd suggest you consider buying MaxSea Time Zero (or Nobletec) since Furuno own 50% of MaxSea and there is excellent capatibility. You wont need a very big hard drive and RAM is also fairly cheap. Go for a bit above minimum spec required for Windows 10.

I learned that the Furuno wireless will not work on a Macbook, only on the little units like an iPad or Apple phone. That was not my main reason for wanting one though.

I nought a used Macbook pro 13 for $500, it is like new and only has 90 battery cycles on it.

thanks everyone,

pete
