Not sure this is the right sub forum, but here goes. I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on our next boat. It's a Symbol 40 with twin Volvo Tamd61a 300HP diesels. The boat weighs 20,000 lbs. It's a semi displacement hull with a cruise speed of 16 knots. We're not interested in traveling that fast with the associated fuel burn. Our plan is to cruise at 7 knots. At this speed I believe I can keep the fuel burn at or under 4GPH. Does this sound reasonable to you guys. I've tried to find the answer by scouring boatdiesel.com and the net, but no definitive answer. I probably should have started here first! As always, thanks in advance!

I'd guess at 7kts you won't be over 4gph. Might be more like 3.

4gph sounds about right, but that would be minimum. Probably more like 4-6. We have A pair of 318hp 63Ls, but our boat has a planing hull and weighs about #35,000. Do those things cancel each other out with you SD and less weight? Maybe... but either way, you’re definitely in the ballpark. :-D
