Black fungus?

Hi - We've been noticing a black sticky mess on the outside of the boat under the upper station. It looks like tar and doesn't scrub off. It seems to have gotten worse over the winter. Is it some kind of fungus and how do I get it off?

First, just going off your description there are several possibilities. Could be sikia flex oozing out. Could be spent jet fuel that shows up as black and sticky. Could be something else.

My first suggestion is to get some “30 second wash” from your local hardware store. Mix it with water and rescrub. If nothiNg happens at first just wait 30 seconds, that’s how it got its name.

First concern for me would be mold. Maybe get a test kit and have it checked. I looked on Amazon and they had kits for about $50. If it is then you need to make up a safe plan for dealing with it.
