When installing a seacock what determines the direction of the scoop on the wet side of the hull. My boat has some forward and some rearward.

Thanks

Main engines face forward. Generators face aft or are the flat bump type.

High Wire is correct, but here is why: Forward facing scoops drive water up into the sea water pump and helps with flow. No problem with the propulsion engine because if the boat is moving, the engine is running.

But if the engine is stopped which is often the case with a genset, then a forward facing scoop can drive water up through the sea water system, flood any lift muffler and backflood the engine. So turn the genset scoop backwards to prevent that or use a mushroom inlet.
