Yep. Any visiting yachtsmen who want to experience the real Cuba only need to put the word out while they are there that they are willing to help anyone who is trying to escape the tropical worker’s paradise.

They will have some sure enough stories to tell then!

As in El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and many in Mexico and Columbia.

Keeping the gov’t ox out of the ditch is a constant struggle and often it fails. But, as a Canadian immigrant, I’d much rather see the US continue to stumble toward its vision of a world order than have any other super power assume that role. (Russia/China, anyone?)

This is a fantastic way to summarize it. People don't realize how much of a constant struggle it is to govern, and why that struggle is necessary.

Everyone wants to pretend they want "freedom" until it's their "ox in the ditch" due to someone else's bad acts. Then it's all kinds of screaming "why didn't the government stop them!"

Ha, sorry about the apparent plagiarism. I should have read the whole thread.

No plagiarism.... having common thoughts is actually common...just not by those that believe opposition is limited and small minded.

Why else are elections 40 something to 50 something percent instead of 90 something to 10.

Greetings,
Mr. m. Of course the country has to be protected! How does one create an enemy of the state? Stick one's nose in their affairs, overthrow their government and install puppets to do YOUR bidding then bomb the cr*p out of them when your puppet goes rogue (Think Saddam Husein here among several others).

Much is made of Cuba's support of Argentina with the condemnation of both countries by the US for human rights abuses. Noble reasoning IMO. Unfortunately, the US is also a major supporter of the Zionist government in Israel. Palestinian apartheid is MY beef with said government (Israel).

So...the title says it all "Administration has stopped all yada yada yada" you might as well of said Trump has stopped all travel (orange man bad), then it veers into the 1 percenters (rich bad), US military (USA bad) and now we're going after the Jews (Jews bad)! I will say one thing about Cuba it has thee best health care in the world and its free!

Right! Look how many 3rd world dictators flock to Cuba for medical procedures!

Greetings,
The Chinese are making inroads in numerous countries around the world. I'm thinking specifically African nations here. Invading, as it were IMO. NOT by force but by contributing to the "victims" infrastructure and well being. It's a soft invasion. They are endearing themselves to a number of African nations. https://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/chinas-investments-in-africa-whats-the-real-story/ Yes, for their own benefit but they have a friendly relationship with the government. Bribery? Of course. It's the Chinese way. You catch a lot more flies with sugar than with vinegar.

Think how things might be different in the ME if the US had invested some of the $1 TRILLION+ cost of the war in Iraq and another $1 TRILLION+ in Afghanistan in schools, roads and infrastructure in general rather than in bombs. The Muslim radicals wouldn't have had a chance. Again IMO.

Edit: Mr. OM. Just saw your post. Nope on everything except Cuban health care.

Hey. My brother-in-law is a Jew. He's bringing my two nieces and nephew up in the faith. We attended Nathan's Bar Mitzvah 2 years ago. GREAT guy he also isn't a Zionist. Zionism should have ended ended May 14th, 1948 with the successful establishment of the Jewish state. Now, Zionism is the excuse for the apartheid of the Palestinians.

I just did some quick redings on Cub's health care...like a lot of subjects....not so cut and dry their systems is "better".

How much HAS the US invested in all those things? I don't know but it isn't $0 against some huge number.

And have they been received in a way the investment is any good?

Just like any injustice....sometimes both carrot and stick are necessary.

Maybe that will be my next course of study in history...how has America fared in rebuilding after wars opposed to just "taking advantage" of the populations. Not too many people I know can seriously converse on that topic.

Lets see...when was the last time a thread spent nearly as much energy as so many here ripping apart other governments than the US?

Maybe I just missed them...anyone have any links to those "balancing" threads?

As someone tied to point out...size shouldn't matter either ith accomplishments OR failures...:D

Indeed. However, that would not have been as enriching for certain special interests. Hard to beat war as a profit center for so many. (No, I'm not anti-military; my skipper served 14 tours in Vietnam, 1960-74; 32 years total.). Note also that the PLO gained its constituency by functioning as a charitable entity.

Greetings,
Mr. ps. The US was instrumental in rebuilding Europe and Japan post WWII and did so completely on it's own with it's own resources, $13 BILLION worth in Europe alone. The Marshall Plan was a genius move and served to firmly establish US benevolence world wide.

The US government doles out in excess of $50 billion in foreign aid (2016) but it's still bombing way too much IMO. Some of the damage is already irreparable. Witness the Islamic terrorists that are out for revenge in response to various actions in the ME.

I suppose the good thing is neither Obama or Trump initiated any new wars.

I had a chance to visit Batista’s Cuba thanks to Uncle Sam. Off base liberty was riding a narrow gage railroad train to Santiago de Cuba a time warp back to the 1800’s.
Castro drank the socialist kool aid and offered the workers paradise with everything free. Fast forward to today, why is Cuba not a economic success ? Castro used the same Mao playbook to re-educate the masses. China did it, why not Cuba, and please no excuses using the embargo. When Batista was in power his cohorts lived in luxury and poor stayed poor. Castro’s cohorts also live privileged lives and the poor are now educated and given good health care but they are still poor.
For me cruising to Cuba ranks right up there with visiting Haiti.
