Pirate Dinghy North Carolina

Has anyone heard of this company of had experience with their dinghy? I am looking for a small hard dinghy and on the surface this one looks interesting:

Thanks for any input. We have a 34' trawler with a 12' beam and will be putting a dinghy on the swim platform with Weaver Davits.

Not much freeboard, but sure looks roomy. Are they really that much dryer? Cheap enough, lightweight. No mention of Max HP.

I somehow doubt that this boat will plane (as touted in the link) with 2.5HP, especially while carrying a "collared shirt and a cotton dress", assuming those articles of clothing are filled by adult bodies.

Thanks for posting. Can't find much about these online. Guess this is their only model? Too bad . . . two more feet, a bit more freeboard and I'd be interested.

As kids that is just what we did. Small boats with "big" engines. Sans the beer. We would even switch the covers on 35 hp outboards for a 25 hp ones to fool our friends/competition and LE.

We stood beside that Dinghy just last week. It looks like a great small dinghy for a swim platform. Much better seating options than the Livingston we used to have on our 35' Trawler. Can't speak to it's planing ability though.

Call the dealer and ask. It's right on Broad Street in Oriental.

It was a 10. We had it on weaver davits and used a block&tackle to hoist it upright. I did like it, but it was awkward to sit on the center bench and have the dog on one side or the other. This little pirate dinghy looks more user friendly. (for our purposes)

I've seen quite a few in this area.
Looks stable and that's what most want.
I'd say 3hp about max.

This is about two blocks from our house. I will be glad to take some first person photos if you would like. My first impression was kind of like a Tootsie Roll approach and they decided to put the transom right where it is...or they could have made it a foot longer in the same mold. That dealer is new to Oriental so I can't tell you much about them.

Why would you pay $1,000 for an 8' hard dinghy when West Marine sells their 9.4' dinghy for $600? See west-marine--watertender-9-4-rowing-dinghy--11985504.


Maximum hp- 5 which might plane one person. I had one, not nearly as stable as an RIB.

I wouldn't buy one because of the floor design. With those two "tubes" running the length of the boat I'd guess that it's difficult to store things (coolers?) in an difficult to stand up in when you want to board or leave the boat.

I woudn't. Looks like cheap chopper gun construction as well. Mighty pricey IMO..

Thanks to all for the feedback. That is one of the many things I appreciate about this forum - lots of knowledge and a willingness to share with others. I kind of like the West Marine water tender. I just can hardly believe West has something that is not 3 times the price of anything else on the market!
